I'm definetly going to get mine revalved or drop the money on a new ohlins now that I know this set up works. Thanks for coming out it was cool meeting you. Not sure how late you stayed but I was able to get a 188mph standing half mile run on the race fuel. Not bad for the heat we were dealing with and the wheelies.WR-NA wrote: Mon Apr 01, 2019 4:47 pm Hey guys
I met up with cOoTeR this weekend at the 1/2 mile event in Gila Bend (whole reason he needed the damper).
I saw the damper setup this weekend and it definitely fits the bill. I think you guys would be happy with this setup especially if the damper has been revalved with the proper needle and proper oil. The OEM ZX-10R manual dampers have a history of being very underwhelming in terms of performance seem more of an afterthought and selling point rather than an actual working damper despite having an Ohlins sticker on them.
Would you be interested in a steering damper mounting kit?

Yeah, same here. Always like meeting people that I have talked with over forums. Especially you and Spaz since we go back to the good ole days of ZX-10R.net.
Unfortunately I had to take off as the misses and I had lunch/dinner plans up in Phoenix that afternoon. Last run I saw you pull off was a 178 I think. But that's sweet that you were able to pull a 188. Definitely has more in it if you could control the wheelies some - probably could through manipulation of the ETV mapping in the lower gears. Looking forward to see what you get out of it though and always glad to help especially when/if it comes to ECU stuff.
The H2 that was there, was relatively stock. He had an exhaust, tune and rider mod (130 lb jockey). Best run he posted was a 200.
For revalving the damper, hit up my buddy Mike. Rogueracing.info fast service, good prices and excellent service. He is very good at what he does. Otherwise I am sure Evan at ESP could help you out in those regards too. Probably would want to go that way especially since he is local (Mike is out in Cali - lives 5-10 minutes from Laguna Seca).

The 178 run was my best on pump gas. But I did notice that the pump had tune seemed to have a spot around 8k rpm that would bring in power pretty suddenly. The race fuel tune brought power in sooner and much smoother so the wheelies were more controlled and I think that contributed a lot to the faster runs.WR-NA wrote: Mon Apr 01, 2019 5:28 pm Yeah, same here. I would be interested. Really surprised even the SE+ didn’t come with one from the factory. Now if someone could make it electronic damper even better.

ALso interested, missed the thread initially but commented in the other.
A newer ohlins vs the old zx dampener. Would it still fit this hardware? Besides the $100 or whatever from the hardware, roughly how much are the dampener's? I've never looked before.

Now a full kit including damper might be a good business venture

A used zx10r damper can be found for around $100-$200 (US dollars). A brand new one runs about $440. I'm not sure what size the other years of zx dampers are but when this is released we should be able to let you know what size will work.Fitz wrote: Thu Apr 04, 2019 2:42 pm ALso interested, missed the thread initially but commented in the other.

We thought about selling a kit with the new dampers but the overhead would be too much. Especially since we wouldn't be selling a high enough volume to become a supplier we'd have to pay full price then mark up the price to make it profitable.

Don't you wish that! HahahaJohnnyboy87 wrote: Wed Apr 03, 2019 10:32 pmNow if someone could make it electronic damper even better.
The mechatronic dampers are meh; typically their response rates are too slow to be worth much if anything at all. These slow rates have been tried to be addressed by Ohlins, at least on some models, with them releasing an updated SCU (suspension control unit) that increases the adjustment rate. Of course they don't give that to you for free, marketing it as a "race only upgrade" forcing you to plunk down a cool ~$300 for it.
Additionally they also suffer from poor damping that the OEM manual Ohlins units have that result them in being sent out to be revalved. Luckily, the damping is a bit better with the mechatronic damper, but still leaves a lot to be desired. For comparison on the OEM manual damper for an 11-15 ZX-10R there are 18 clicks of adjustment. With it set to '18', the highest damping amount, it still is not as strong as a the exact same damper after it has been revalved and set to '1', it's weakest damping amount. For me and my own personal opinion, the dampers most OEMs include these days are an afterthought that are simply put there to 1) make lawyers happy and 2) use as a selling point in comparison to other models.
