Good places for EZ-Pass?

Post by danham » Fri Mar 22, 2019 1:58 pm

Today I spent an hour or so de-farkling the BMW I'm trading on my SE next week (GPS and V1 wiring, RAM mounts, etc.) and one of the items I removed is my EZ-Pass toll transponder. I don't do any more slab than I have to, but when I have to use a toll road or bridge, an EZ-Pass is practically mandatory on a bike.

So, any good suggestions on where to mount it on an SE? Has anyone put one behind the "fake" air intake on the right side?

Thanks,

Yes, there is space there. That's where I mounted the controller for my keyless ignition system (see pic below).

There's also a little bracket on the other side of the nose fairing above the real intake. It wasn't big enough for my controller but I mounted the chirp module there. It would be perfect for a transponder.

One more option is in the tail. Slide off the black plastic cover around the taillight and you'll find some space there for wiring connectors. There's not much room but should be enough for a tollway transponder.

Thanks Champ. I'd be worried that mounting it in the tail would prevent it from being read by the toll gantry. I know from bitter experience that the gates on some NY bridges won't open until the transponder is read and in early days of using one I kept it in my jacket pocket. The first time that failed I got dirty looks, horns and middle fingers galore from my fellow motorists. :bash:

If you haven't seen it already, here's a link to the Fairing Removal Aid I posted a couple of weeks ago. Even if you have the service manual that guide will help you remove the nose fairing.

I got a cheap, soft handle bar mount holder. It holds the ez-pass well. It fit around the mirror stalk, but not secure enough for me. The next plan is to get a small dog collar to hold the whole thing to the mirror. I haven had a chance to try it out, but that is my plan.

I know the Japanese version of the H2SX comes stock with a toll payment system. I wonder how hard it would be to integrate ezpass to it.
