Zx14r to H2 sx se+

Post by N4speed » Fri Mar 01, 2019 4:16 pm

Hello all. New to the forums, and would like input on the h2 sx se. Thinking about trading my zx14r piped and tuned for the se+ . Was wondering how they would compare in terms of power, speed, comfort and handling. I don't really want to part with godzilla but I would gladly to get the se+. I would definately do the vcyclnut treatment flash, pipe, and filter to bring it up to what it should be 230 to 240hp. Thanks for any input. The way it sounds to me there wouldn't be anything stock that could hang with it ex s1000rr zx14r,v4 panigale ect.

I had a 2013 ZX14r tuned by Ivan in New York that was a beast. After the tune the throttle response was amazing and setting it up like I usually do made it a really comfortable platform to ride for hours. This included Heli-bar risers, Knight design lower pegs and a Corbin seat. I think stock the 14 was quite a bit faster than my H2SXSE but after both bikes were tuned, the 14 according to Ivan was at best 210 RWHP so it probably gained 15 to 20 HP with the full Ackra 4 into 1 and K&N filter. The H2SXSE with Vcyclenut tune, Sprint filter and Yosh slip-on gained about 40 to 45 HP and is a completely different animal now performance-wise. Without testing against a tuned 14 and going by seat of the pants, I'd say it is quicker and the throttle response is now equal to how my 14 was tuned, excellent. If the 14 has an advantage it would be in the low RPM band, on top end the H2SX is a monster now and mid-range is startling for a 1000cc in-line 4. Comfort-wise right now I have to give the 14 the nod but I have lowered the pegs on the H2, raised the bars but not as much as was on the 14 and have had the seat redone by Sargent but haven't had the opportunity to test that yet as it's cold as hell here in Ohio now. The cruise control, heated grips, nearly unlimited riding modes and clutch-less shifting just blow away the 14 plus the cool factor of owning an H2 with a blower is obviously no comparison. I'd do it again in a heartbeat and that's my take on it dude.

Thanks so much for the quick and Imformative response. Just the right info I'm looking for. It's so hard these days to get a test ride on one and when your paying that much coin, one takes a big risk not getting what your expecting.
I think I m leaning towards getting it.

Like most bikes there are pros and cons to switching. I had a 2016 ZX14R that was giving me issue after issue and finally I had enough of it. Went to a different dealership then I normally go to and asked them to give me prices on a 2016-2018 ZX14R, 2018 H2 SX and a 2018 SX/SE. Really liked the 14R so that's why I was considering another one, it was just mine giving me so many issues. Ended up trading my 14R in for a 2018 SX/SE and loved it right off the bat. So ill break it down into what you asked. Power, speed, comfort, handling and ill add in accessories.

Power:
Its obviously lower power compared to the ZX14R, especially the massive torque that the 1441cc engine puts out. But aside from that low end torque of the 14R, it pretty much feels the same due to the SX/SE weighing ~40-50lbs less. The potential power is the key. Due to it having a supercharger and being restricted from factory, there is MASSIVE gains from standard bolt ons and a flash. My 14R had a single akrapovic exhaust and auto tune and when I put it back to stock and rode it to the dealership. I was blown away how slow it felt.

Speed: With factory settings, it will top out the same as the 14R at 299kmh. I feel it accelerates better due to gearing but I cant remember that far back on the 14R lol.

Comfort: Riding position is definitely better on the SX/SE. Not so hunched over, however, I find my legs are more bent and cramped. This may be due to the fact I had Sato Racing rearsets on my 14R, so I was able to adjust them. Sadly no one makes them for the SX. The seat however is no where near as comfortable as the 14R. That thing was like a couch and I do miss that seat.

Handling: Being slightly lighter, but having the same wheel base, the SX is very slightly more nimble then the 14R. I find it does turn in faster but not like a 600 or 1000 ss.

Accessories: Well the first one I tried and fell in love with is the cruise control. Can not get over how much I love that thing lol. Since I have a back injury, long rides and being in a position for a long time is an issue for me. So by using the cruise control, I can let go off the bars and sit straight up, lean back and stretch my back out. All the other options like quick shifter, corner lights...all that jazz is a bonus that it comes with the bike unlike the 14R, even though you can add aftermarket parts.

Overall I like the SX/SE more then the 14R. There are times I miss the 14R, but the SX/SE has so much more to offer. And that supercharger/bov sound gets me giggling like a little school boy every time.

Thanks snakes, decisions decisions. Sorry to hear about the issues you had with your 14r. Mine is a 15 with 17000 trouble free miles these 14s are rock solid bikes. This is my second one, the first 14r was a 12 model. Got 20000 trouble free miles out of that one.
I traded my 15 model fora 15 bmw k1600gt and later got to missing it and bought it back. So now I have it and the bmw and a 15 Ktm 1290 sdr this sickness can get awfully exspensive. Anyway I’m looking to consolidate down to 2 or possibly 1.
All are great bikes I hate to part with but maintaining and insuring 3 bikes is getting old. So the bikes I have narrowed down to are the h2 sx se+, 19 ktm 1290gt or Bmw s1000xr. Or just keep the 14r and take it to the next level with a head porting and cams which should net me around 230 to 240hp

If you look around, plenty of comparo's etc. Only one I'd point out is a famous youtube vid of a h2 getting spanked by a z1400, but they left out the 1400 was modded/chipped to a stock SE.

I would say, look for leftover 18 normals. To me the price jump to the + is not worth it. Unless you *truly* have the track and intense riding style (not just ripping it on the highway like me) that needs the suspension changes.

Yea, I fond a couple of leftover 18 se,s for around 17000.00 also I can put money down on a se+ which can be had for 22000 plus tax.
My 14 has Corbin seat and double stack genmar risers and is pretty decent comfort wise. And I know the h2sx can probably be modded even better for comfort. Judging by sitting on one.
I’m still leaning more for the se+ self healing paint, electronic suspension, and Brembo brakes.
However I like the color of the 18 model better. So far I’m not seeing anyone having regrets going from 14 to h2.
I just wish more would chime in with modded to modded power and acceleration differences. I know the torque would win out in favor of the 14 but it sounds like the h2 would pull away cleanly on a roll on race modded to modded.
I would love to hear some stories from the modded h2sx owners with encounters with other superbikes.

Ahem.... can I preface in saying that sometimes it depends on the ..umm "determination" of any particular rider...

My more memorable experiences so far...

Ducati V4 S - rev bombed me flying past slapping his ass....ummkay challenge accepted and it was on... soon as i went past and we got up the mountain part a bit he just vanished from mirrors...when he arrived at where i had stopped he mentioned he was surprised at the pace of the SX but he was not "trying"... lol I said either was I and would welcome a day when he felt like trying...:)

BMW 1000RR....had to work to catch up... had to really work to keep up... but managed to become close and personal through a long section of road just simply not suitable to rip around...

Long straight line runs are just not a thing in my area... the carbon rims and exhaust weight savings have really transformed mine into quite a nippy little f*&cker...I have 49 degrees left and 54 degrees right on the lean-o-meter - it chews SP2 pirellis in 3000 klm and I freakin love every minute of it....

How much of a difference did you find the carbon rims made? Have always been tempted but have heard the standard wheels are quite light anyways, so wasn't sure how much of a difference they would make?

The way it sounds where a h2sx (tuned) really shines is roll on from 80 to 150. Just wish I could test ride one, if it didn't accelerate faster than my 14r I think I would be disapointed.
