Quick action throttle

Post by UNUZ3D » Mon Feb 04, 2019 5:30 am

I have got rather used to the quick action throttle that i've got on my zx10r, and is probably one of my favourite mods.
Is there any possible way of adding one to the H2sx?

Obviously with the throttle being fly-by wire i'm guessing the conventional way isn't possible.
Would it have to be done by a remap? I had asked for an attempt at that when I had my remap done, and was told it was possible,
only for the remap to not actually offer that.

Anybody know any way of being able to make this work?

Hmm. Im curious about this as well. Had the motionlro on my zx6r and zx10r and loved it. They do make a kit for the gen5 zx10r which is fly by wire as well.

Yeah I have the same one I think. Makes it so much more enjoyable to ride. Well that sounds promising, at least it sounds possible then.

with my flash the high power mode is a quick turn throttle , you could still add a different throttle tube which would speed up all the modes.

an r6 tube works really well on most bikes

I think my flash looks fairly similar to yours on paper, and I didn't fancy the idea of removing/sending off my ECU.

I didn't realise changing the throttle tube would have that effect. That's definitely something I will look into though, so thankyou

Our throttle-by-wire is still by cable... :)

The throttle tube is just like any other throttle-tube, it's just that there's some electronic stuff going on the other side of the cables. It's not like the Ducati/Polaris/etc. setup where the pot. is in the grip. So, theoretically, you could quick throttle the same way as you did on any other bike (R6 tube, motion pro setup, etc.). Now I'm not sure how much clearance is in there, so not sure if a bigger cam/wheel fits. If you try it, let us know! An R6 tube is like $12 or something.

But yes, it's also possible in a flash. The difference being you could have it go up to 100% throttle at 75% throttle, making the usable portion shorter, but the actual hand-action would still go the same distance, just wasted movement for the last 25% (or whatever you programmed it for).

oh wow, shows how much I know. That definitely sounds promising then. I would email motionpro to ask if they'd make one, but seems I can't contact them from the uk on their site for some reason.

But yes at that price it's definitely worth a go with the tube.

Yeah that's what i'd hoped for and asked for with the flash, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to be the case and it's a 5 hour ride from where I live.

Thanks for the help, will update with anything I find out.

from my experience with fly by wire you dont want to be at true 100% more the a few percent before the end of the turn of the throttle. All is well and good when you are turning the throttle on but when you roll off from 100% and the bike doesnt slow down at all till you get to 75% its not a very comfortable It doesnt take a lot of dropping off to get the sensation of slowing down but you need some

So time for an update.

I decided to go with a different solution after finding my old "rifleman" quick action throttle from my zx10r.
It fits the existing throttle tube perfectly, but unfortunately the housing was a little too tight and catching the cable and stopping the throttle from snapping back smoothly.

Firstly I sanded down the insert to the point it could be used inside the housing with no rubbing. This helped improve the throttle response but still wasn't quite what I wanted, and still needed me to readjust for full throttle.

I then went and purchased another of the inserts from another owner and this time adapted the housing around the insert.
It didn't take much, just needed Dremelling out at a few tight points and this allowed the throttle to snap back without any issues. It still sounded like was rubbing slightly, but as the throttle was moving smoothly I added a little oil into the housing for good measure.

Overall is now exactly what I want, feel it needs an extra few mm turn compared to the motion pro on my zx10r, but is enough that i can give it full throttle quickly and easily, without repositioning. Very happy with the difference, and have fallen in love with how much power is so easily accessible.
