Interesting discovery about the rear axle
So I just got back from a motorbike show. Was dissappointed the SX/SE+ wasnt there. Anywho, they had a 2018 SX and SX/SE. The SX had the standard rear axle which is causing us to run into an issue with rear stands. But the SE had the same driveshaft as the H2/H2R. Talked to a kawasaki rep and we came to the conclusion that the SE they had there is there prototype show model. Kawasaki decided to change the axle for production. I wonder if its possible to just change the axles.

Re: Interesting discovery about the rear axle
Good catch. Looking at the parts diagrams and the shared parts comparison I posted a while back, I was surprised by how little difference there is. Other than different part numbers for different colors, the hub, carries, bearings, etc. all seem to be the same for H2/H2R and H2 SX.
The biggest difference seems to be the axle itself. H2 SX has an inner and outer axle whereas the H2/H2R only has an outer with a holding nut. Maybe the inner was added to add strength to compensate for the additional weight of passenger and luggage on the H2 SX. Whatever the reason, at first view it looks as if the H2/H2R axle and nut could be used on the H2 SX.

Re: Interesting discovery about the rear axle
One slight problem - cost of parts. Around $800 at full Kawasaki list prices. Over $500 for a rear axle? Hmm.
Ref: 92210A - NUT,RR AXLE,35MM – Part # 92210-1415 – 2 @ $130.45 = US$260.90
Ref: 41068 - AXLE,RR - Part # 41068-0620 = US$512.75
Ref: 92200A - WASHER,35.1X56X1.6 - Part # 92200-1764 - 2 @ $5.90 = US$11.80
Ref: 92033 - RING-SNAP,41X1.6 - Part # 92033-0760 = US$8.62

Re: Interesting discovery about the rear axle
Yea not cheap, but if there was no rear stand option, this may be the only solution. Apprent pitbull is designing a pin for our bikes and it will be strong enough.

Re: Interesting discovery about the rear axle
I view it as $800 vs. the risk/cost of damage from falling off a weak stand. Doesn't sound so expensive that way.
I'm not in the market for a stand right now but your post really prodded my curiosity. I wanted to find out more. Thanks for spotting that and posting.

Re: Interesting discovery about the rear axle
I agree 100%. Using my lift is so much easier on my back when i work on my bike. But the chock that came with it was flimsy as shit so i removed that. Using the centre stand only right now and dont trust it if i raise the lift. So im trying to find a solution that favours the safety of myself and the bike over cost. If that means spending $800 + 180 for a pitbull rear stand, so be it.
If what you say about why they switched axles due to weight, i can deal with that as i never have passengers and if i ever buy side cases, they will only be used 1 or 2 tomes a year.

Re: Interesting discovery about the rear axle
I contacted Pitbull months ago about a pin and they were unsure if it would be strong enough or if it was too thin. I went ahead and bought their h2 stand and machined about 100/1000 off of the pin and it fits great. After speaking to pitbull again about 2 weeks ago they have done testing and stated the pin was plenty strong as long as you don’t sit on the bike while on the stand. They are in the process of making the pin now and will be shipping soon.

Re: Interesting discovery about the rear axle
I called PitBull this morning and it's still on the drawing board. She put me on an email list that will get notified when it's available.

Re: Interesting discovery about the rear axle
I have just had the rear axle and bearings replaced on my SX (SE) as bearings had not been properly greased at the factory and were squeaky dry. Have done only 10,000 miles. There were replaced without fuss under warranty, £800 of parts!!
Apparently a few of the H2s had the same problem.
