High Mileage Owners

Post by Curly » Sat Dec 15, 2018 6:18 pm

Anyone doing high mileage on their H2SX?

I'll be moving over to a H2SX from a GTR1400, currently doing 25K miles a year, all year round.

Wonder if there's any issues people have noticed?

e.g. after owning 3 GTRs they would be:

* exhaust and sidearms paint issues
* wheel corrosion on earlier models with non-painted wheels
* Rear shock adjuster always seized.
* Fairing cracks on LHS after 30K
* Front wheel bearings go after ~25K, then rear bearings, then steering bearings shortly after.
* Centre stand can seize
* Used to chew up pads and disc every 8K until I gave up active braking and just use engine braking :D

I do about 13k miles / 6 months here..

On the H2SX SE the paint isn't very strong, it chips fairly easily.. The SE+ might have better paint.
Tubular frame corrosion is apparent if you don't dry out crevices on the bike.
Center Stand had issues, but they were fixed after Kawasaki Issued a recall.
Clutch fluid turns very dark after the first few 1000 miles of use, my reservoir actually ran dry.
Recent posts suggest that water infiltration in electrical connectors could be an issue.

As to the paint, I have no issues so far. 8500 miles.
But I preserved the paint with ceramic coating when new, it can do a difference.

10K miles here since May. The only issues I have seen is rust starting at the corners and recesses in the frame, black clutch fluid, darkening brake fluid.

I started noticing the a little rust when I did the center stand recall. I like to do my own maintenance, so I picked up the part and worked it myself. I chose to leave the center stand off as I have never relied on one in the past. I machined a pin for my PowerStands Triumph lift so I can do whatever maintenance with that.

Pass 10 000 kms or 6500 Miles.. No issues so far beside the recall on center stand, drove a lot in the rain in Seattle.

I have noticed rust on the chain at 1400 miles. Now to clarify this, I have been riding on UK damp, salty roads. Each time I finish a ride I hose the bike down properly. I suspect, not having ridden in winter before, that I am not oiling the chain enough and I reckon I should be doing this after each run and wash.

Last night I looked at the chain properly, cleaned it with paraffin and re-oiled. All is now well.

Kawasaki might have done good to Liquipel these bikes.
