Clutch slave cylinder leak

Post by Tefal » Tue Oct 30, 2018 10:46 pm

So took he bike in for its 4,000 mile service today mentioned the clutch fluid level had dropped.

Turns out it's been leaking from the back of the slave cylinder and onto the front sprocket before being dispersed.

I haven't had a chance to look at the bike since (needed to get home to sleep as I work nights)

They think they should have a new cylinder assembly by the morning or the day after and replace it under warranty.

But I've just been thinking clutch fluid is brake fluid right?

How much damage could that have done to the chain orings and pain plastics etc around there.

Going to ring the garage in the morning and ask about the chain but any help you guys could give on what to check and where when I go back/anything I should be asking.

Getting a bit annoyed now since new had leaking coolant hose and now leaking clutch

Ill recheck mine for leaks.

First the clutch fluid turned black in the reservoir.
10,000 miles later it had completely drained, the reservoir was empty.

I checked for leaks but couldn't find any signs of clutch fluid.
I bled the syetem and refilled the reservoir with Motul RBF 600, rode 3,000 extra miles and everything seems fine.. no signs of clutch fluid going down.

Just an update on this guys since the slave cylinder and its oring was replaced ive done nearly 2k miles the fluid level hasnt dropped at all but more importantly the fluid is still its nice clean colour

By now from new it was already very dark.

As it leaks on the inside onto the front sprocket its kinda hard to tell if theres anything wrong but it may be something to look into with the darkening fluid.

I'll update once im up to 8k if the fluid hasnt changed colour by then it may well be am issue with the slave cyilinders from the factory

Thanks for the update. Do you know if the leak can be spotted without taking too much apart? At 1k my fluid was very dark and noticeably low. I topped it off and have done another 600 miles since. It seems to still be full but it would be nice to look for myself to make sure it’s not leaking.

In my case I replaced the factory fluid, by high quality/high boil point fluid and it hasn't taken a drop since.

My level has dropped a quarter inch and has darkened considerably when compared to the brake reservoir fluid.... that is with only 250 km on the bike.

That's the level where mine is after about 3,500 miles and it has also gotten that dark. My dealer says not to worry.

You might be able to get to it by reaching in behind the front sprocket cover.

It only got picked up on mine because the mechanic at rhe dealer is a bit ocd and was determined to find where it was leaking

It drips right into the chain so just get flung. Maybe wipe down the inside of rhe front sprocket cover leave over might and wipe again in the morning and see if any fluid found its way there.
