Suspension tuning

Post by Kwee » Fri Oct 05, 2018 7:27 pm

Hi everyone,

I have my H2 SX since 2 and a half months. The only thing i have modified on my previous bikes was the rear preload because i'm a big guy and i have a passenger sometimes. After this experience, i regret not doing it before.

Today, i check my standard suspension settings, i was a little dissapointed. Everything was way off standard and no even sync between the two forks. The settings set from factory(or dealer) was way too hard, she was hard to turn.

So first thing, i reset all the settings according to the manuel.

The rear settings are okay from standard except the preload is way too soft. 4 clicks clockwise from standard, i set it to 14 clicks(solo riding, street race) between 16 clicks(confort with passenger) and 18 clicks (street race w/ passenger).Max clicks is 24.

Front settings :

The rebound was okay, 6 clicks counterclockwise is between soft and hard. Okay for me, for now. Max setting is 11 clicks = Soft. (Standard 6 clicks CC)

The compression setting was too soft. The rear wheel lost traction when i pull the brake. But she feel like a 600, she's easy to turn. I set the compression at 6 clicks counterclockwise(between soft and hard), she still feel light and the fork doesn't dive too much, the rear wheel is okay with this setting. Standard setting 9 clicks CC. Max setting is 13 clicks CC = Soft

I didn't touch the preload on the fork, seem okay for now.

Setting for street use is always so difficult because you will encounter bumps etc...track is easier as you would expect even surface.

Monitor carefully your tyre wear - they tell you everything... on YouTube search for 4 clicks out or Dave Moss there is some great material there to consider.

If you are a big guy you need to get someone to help you measure your sag height....again check moss vids they are great

Yeah i watch a lot of his videos, this guy is a expert in suspension tuning !

Sag is even more difficult because i have a passenger more than often for having to set everytime my rear preload.

I guess I got lucky. My forks were even and correct. Sag was perfect as well as compression and rebound. The rear was fine for preload and sag, but stock settings were way too much for low and high speed compression, but rebound was fine. A couple tweeks is all it took.
