Installed on my hardbags and I find it a pain to have to remove the key from the ignition everytime I want to get into the bags. I just can't figure out how to remove them.
Anyone have experience or pointers to share?

Re: One Key Lock Removal
Are you referring to removing the locks from the hardbags once they are installed? It makes your bags unsecure, but they can be taken out once installed and locked in if you want/need to. Once in they are locked in place, so they can't be pulled OUT obviously. But they can be removed from the inward direction (see below).
I did it when I returned my U.S. bags (with bolted on reflector) and ordered some bags from Europe. My dealer told me he would have to drill them out, and my response was "WTF you talking about?
"
Found these instructions elsewhere when I had to do it. Basically you can disassembled the top cover of the bags (that hides the locking mechanism) from the inside

1. Remove the 3 small screws that are on the outside of the bag (on the side that faces the bike when installed)
2. Open the bag and remove the 2 phillips head screws on either side of the handle.
3. Remove the 4 T30 security head screws inside the bag on the under-side of the top.
4. Pull the top piece of the bag off. At this point it is only held in place by double sided tape under the 3 small screws that were removed in step 1.
5. Turn the top piece over and study how the mechanism works. There is a metal post that fits into a slot on a piece of plastic. When you turn the key, the post rotates and causes the plastic piece to move back and forth, locking and unlocking the bag.
6. There is a slider that slides up and down to secure the bag to the bike. I had the bag open with the key in the unlocked position. When I pulled that slider up (the position it would be in to take the bag off of the bike), the piece of plastic I'm referring to in step 5 fell off. Since I studied the mechanism earlier, I could easily put that piece back where it went. It's pretty obvious. Go ahead and take that plastic piece out of the way.
7. Remove the 3 small screws that hold the rotating metal post in place.
8. At this point you can see the spring loaded tab that holds the key cylinder in the hole. Use a paper clip to push that tab down and the key cylinder slides right out.

Re: One Key Lock Removal
Unfortunately the lock also secures the mechanism that holds the bags to the bike in addition to unlocking the latch to open the bags so it's probably not a good idea to remove it (and you can't remove the key from the lock if it's unlocked to make sure it's always locked before you start the bike for safety). My FJR bags work the same way--some guys on the FJR forum got spare keys and cut off the handles and glued them into knobs and just kept them inserted in the bag key slots. You would just need to make sure you removed them along with your ignition key when you leave the bike unattended.

Re: One Key Lock Removal
When I am travelling with the bags I don't have the need to get into them that often. If you have things that you need often, you can put them in a tankbag.silverr1 wrote: Mon Sep 17, 2018 9:58 pm Installed on my hardbags and I find it a pain to have to remove the key from the ignition everytime I want to get into the bags. Another option is to take your spare key along and attach it to a retractable access card holder.
Like this one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Half-Card-Hold ... 5R3giBBUxw
If you fasten it inside the front zipper of your jacket, you have easy access to the key. The only problem is with the key in the lock, you will have a limited area to walk around, bacause of the line between the key and your jacket.
