What mods have you changed and how would you rate it?

Post by Zdude » Mon Sep 17, 2018 9:15 pm

My changes and results on 1 - 10 scale, 10 being best:

Vcyclenut ECM reflash - 10
Yoshimura Alpha slip-on - 9
Sprint filter - 8
Knight design lower pegs - 7
Beet 10mm bar raisers - 3 ( might change as I get a better feel)
removal of factory reflectors - 3 ( looks better to me)

additional changes to come:
seat upgrade - leaning towards Sargent seat foam upgrade and re-shaping
windshield - not sure what I'll do here but at least tinted dark
Maybe remove cat and have new "s" section made ( of course that means ECM back to Vcyclenut)
Probably add a tankbag of some sort before a "bucket list" trip to western US next summer with friends
Phone mount from the Triple tree stem nut
Go-Pro set up

Why do you rate the Beet 10mm bar risers only a 3? I thought you said in an earlier post that your found them an improvement.

Oops, that was roadczar that said they were an improvement. Did you not feel any difference?

I gave it a 3 because of the limited rise being 10mm. That being said, they do work, are good quality, fit, finish and you can feel the difference. I just wish they were a 1/2" up and 1/2" back. I think an offset bar on each side would be easily engineered and manufactured, hope somebody does it. I had that set up on a bike years ago and it worked great, don't remember who made them.

So far I've only installed the Powerbronze shield, the Kawasaki hard bags and Kawasaki sliders.

Powerbronze shield: I like the shield, I'd give it a 4 out of 5.
Side cases: The bags are a must for me, I think the quality is so-so compared to the bags that come on FJRs I've owned. Still not having the color inserts probably affects my rating of 3 out of 5.
Sliders: They look great but in a garage tip over they didn't prevent minor scuffs to the mirror, lower body & case on one side. If they were just a bit longer it may have made a difference. 2 out of 5 (mostly for looks)

I installed the ABM Handlebar kit. It makes a huge difference in the riding position. I only have a few miles on after the the install so the jury is not back yet. Right now I'd rate them an 8. Losing 2 points to their time estimates and failing to adequately assess the difficulty of removing the left side grip. ( heat it and slide it off ... I'm paraphrasing.) Heat with oxy/acetylene and burn it off would be more effective though messy. The new grip for the SE is $140, and includes new wiring set and grip heater control board.
The seat on the 18' SX SE sucks, its foam never conforms, always fights to push you back off the machine. I pulled the cover, carved away over half of the foam, leaving the top molded profile, and refilled with a combination of gel and memory foam. I'll let you know how it worked after a couple hundred miles ( today ) I used 1/4" staples to reinstall the cover, looks perfectly stock.
