Bench Testing the New CNC Billet Oil Pump: Thermal Drift and OEM Weaknesses Exposed

I couldn’t help myself. The second this new high-flow billet oil pump landed on my workbench, I was tearing down the assembly to mic every single tolerance. I’m just a crazy wrenching addict at heart, and let me tell you, what I found compared to the factory unit is pure insanity.

We all know the unforgivable weaknesses of OEM cast pumps—the moment you push sustained high RPMs, the material rigidity fails, and the terror of thermal drift sets in. The factory clearances open up, pressure drops, and you’re basically asking for a scored camshaft. But this new unit? It’s absolutely bulletproof. The housing is milled from aerospace-grade aluminum with literal millimeter-level precision on the gerotor clearances. I slapped it on the test rig, and the dimensional stability under extreme heat cycling is completely dialed in. It flat-out annihilates the heat soak issues that plague high-compression builds. The sheer volume of oil it moves without cavitating is a mechanical work of art.

It got me thinking about the fluid dynamics when pushing this much volume through restrictive factory galleys. When you guys are dialing in your race engines to fight heat soak, how are you perfectly matching your oil viscosity and bypass valve spring rates to handle this massive jump in flow velocity without blowing out a cooler line during a cold start? Let’s talk pressures.
