RG Racing tail tidy fitted...

Post by 2HYPR » Sat Aug 04, 2018 9:25 am

Some pics of today's endeavours... took about an hour.

The kit as it arrived

The "connectors" needed to splice in the number plate LED's were woeful - really cheap and not something I would use so I direct soldered and heat shrank over the join...in fact, all the connectors were something you would maybe use on a grade 8 science project but nothing else. This finish of the coating was great... I chose to use the original indicators and the side hole fitted perfectly for the original stalk rubbers.

The instructions were photocopied pictures that were grainy and to be honest bit hard to identify as the pic was so close up - but not to the point were it is inhibiting - just for the money they charge you think they could give you something that could have made it a bit easier to follow... there was a list of things to do in order, which was a list of plain text and the other pages were just a gazzilion faded, grainy pics. They seem to have spent all the money on the glossy colour printing on the box it came in lol

The difference side on

The diference from rear

There is adjustability out and back in towards the bike, I set mine to as far in as I could go as I never put the panniers on ( I have a K1600 for that) but I am glad I stuck with the original blinkers, I am picking up a red reflector that is rectangular not round (as came in the kit) that is needed for compliance down under - but overall happy with the change from the rear stub tail protrusion...

Looks good. I almost always install tail tidies on my bikes but I just don't think the stock set up on this bike looks that bad. Some stock tail sections are just hideously large, like the one on my KTM Super Duke R--it just had to go!

I like your tail bag--I have the same exact one on mine.

That's the one I have and it fits perfectly on the rear seat. They also make the CL-1060 ST that's a little larger, about 1" in each direction. Both are expandable.

Have you got a picture of the wiring situation and where you had to splice in?

Depending on what the access and space is like if the r&g connectors are that bad some aircraft connectors might get liberated from work when I do this :p

No, I don't I am sorry - when you remove the factory snout the number plate light goes with it - so you have to splice in the little LED one in the kit in its place.

The rest is actually shortening the overall length of the factory wiring of the indicators by removing a section ( from memory about 120mm) and splicing together again retaining the plug ends. I just did not like the quality of the supplied hardware and whilst not advocating theft as a servant better quality made my OCD happy :D

Question on the wiring. What are the "big lumps" in the turn signal wires? Are they required or can they be removed?
