MPG roulette

Post by stk0308 » Sat Jul 07, 2018 11:44 pm

Went for a lunch ride today, and finally topped off the tank from the end of my WI tour.

Medium power. OEM bags on. Running 5-10 mph over major American highway speed: 41.9 mpg 178.5 miles on the tank, low fuel light blinking the last dozen miles, or so. Put in 4.258 gallons.

Full power, no bags. First leg of our lunch ride: 35.4 mpg. 86 miles, consumed 2.427G

Full power, no bags. Final leg to lunch, and back to a good gas station. A fun twisty route: 27.8 mpg. 73.6 miles consumed 2.652G(you could say we were having a good time :ugly: )

Full power, no bags. On the way home, still a good twisty route: 31.2 mpg. 43.5 miles consumed 1.394G

Just geewhiz info. Basically, confirming if you really twist the throttle, you really consume the fuel, lol

Motorcycling is not, of itself, inherently dangerous. It is, however, extremely unforgiving of inattention, ignorance, incompetence, or stupidity

Does anyone else think the light comes on a little early and gauge shows too low? Light blinks and you still have real close to 1 US gallon available.

It depends where you are riding at. A lot of places I ride don't have gas stations for several miles often 50+ miles apart. So the full gallon warning is great.

I also like the 50 mile warning, but wish the gauge was more accurate. It seems low at all levels.

A ~1 gallon reserve warning is pretty common. The light is meant to just be a reminder that your fuel is getting low and you should think about refilling, not that you are almost out of gas. :)
