Went out on a night ride up the local mountain tonight. Started out at 75°(F) at the bottom and dropped to 52° at the top. We were in a small group I was on the H2 SX SE of course, 1 guy on an Aprilia Rsv4, 1 guy on a vstrom and his girl friend on a Harley fatboy.
Once we hit the mountain we each rode our own pace. So myself and the RSV4 took off ahead. I wish the corner lights were pointed a little higher. By the time they came on I was already looking past where they were shining. The guy in the rsv4 loved them though, apparently they work great showing the guy behind you the road. So he was able to see through the corners as I was looking through the corners into darkness. The bike felt great especially after setting the suspension up, it feels way better in the corners.
Once we got to the top we stood around chatting for a bit. Then when it was time to go the Harley wouldn't start. The girl on it and her boy friend didn't know how to push start so we tried that a few times. I was on the bike tried twice with the guy riding the rsv4 pushing me. Then I realized the ignition was off

oops. At least we were going down hill. Tried a few more times and it was just acting like it didn't have any spark. It was acting like the kill switch was switch to the off position but it was on the run position. The girl had road side assistance so she tried calling them but she was on hold for about 15-20 mins before hanging up. We pushed the bike back uphill to the parking lot which sucked. She called her brother to come pick her up and they were going to pick up their trailer and get the bike in the morning. We hung around with them for a bit as I was scratching my head trying to figure out what was wrong. I said it was really weird because the bike was acting like something was disconnected or a safety switch was on because even if the battery was completely drained the headlight should have lit up a little as the bike was rolling when I dumped the clutch. Then she said something to the effect of "It's crazy that it's dead because it's a brand new battery". Then it clicked to check the power cables. After we pulled the seat off I noticed the positive cable wasn't all the way seated against the terminal and was screwed into the side. I pressed on it and it sparked and I could hear the fuel pump kick on. I got into my Kawasaki tool kit and the little wrench was the right size. I tightened it down and noticed the cable was hitting the case of the battery before it reached the terminal. So I tried to move the cable to the top of the terminal and it barely reached. It took a few tries to get the bolt started without cross threading it but we got it. The bike started with no issues and ran fine. So we headed down the mountain.
We were taking off from a light and the guy on the rsv4 tried to take off fast and pass me. He got the jump on me since I did not expect it. Once I got the clutch out I twisted the throttle to wide open. The bike lifted the front slightly and I easily got ahead of him. I heard him stay in it pretty hard shifting into 2nd so I kept going. I pulled away from him pretty easily. I'm surprised at how fast the bike is now with a tune.
