Still waiting. Anyone else?

Post by gremlin » Mon Apr 30, 2018 3:11 am

Thank you to all the forum members that have posted ride reviews and/or photos of your H2SX experiences. I'm still waiting for my dealer to receive their first unit. For perspective, I live in the Washington DC metro area. I negotiated the price and down payment in December. Most other local Kawasaki dealers have received H2SX units starting a month ago, some have received two. When discussing this with my dealer, he has no explanation for the delay, and has no idea when the unit will arrive. It's interesting that for a few bucks, you can send a UPS or FedEx letter and track it from sender to recipient. Yet a $22K unit weighing over 500 pounds seems to go into a Bermuda Triangle of darkness once the bike leaves Akashi Japan until it arrives unexpectedly at the dealer months later. The bike can only be in one of four places: Akashi factory, ship on the ocean to USA, train from port to Kawasaki warehouse, or truck to dealer. Yet both the dealer and Kawasaki USA customer service are at loss to explain expected arrival times. Motorcycles are emotional decisions, and consumer purchase decisions can be changed on a whim. Leaving consumers in the dark is not a good business plan. Going to another dealer doesn't seem fair, as every dealer seems to be at the whim of a distribution system that is unexplainable. Anyone else still waiting? Anyone have insight to motorcycle distribution systems?

Sorry to hear this story.
Here in Finland dealers will get two deliveries of H2SX.
The first delivery came at end of March (incl. mine) and the second set is coming by end of May.
Not idea how it goes at overseas as a market size is much much bigger...

The dealer I purchased my SX SE from has a SX on his showroom floor right now. Long Island Kawasaki. They ordered 4 SE's and 2 SX's. They received half. 2 SE's and 1 SX. No explanation from Kawasaki and 2 very pissed off customers as he had all 4 SE's sold long before the 1st two came in. Look at the issues with the bags. I have my bags but they're useless without the color matching panels which make them waterproof. I picked up the bike in March and here it is almost 5 weeks later and I don't even have an ETA as to when to expect them. Kawasaki clearly dropped the ball on this and it's Kawasaki that should be making things right to the customers.

For Kawasaki, it sounds like they handle everything from Japan to the dealer itself, so it's not the dealer's distribution system but the manufacturer's. Along the way, the dealer is told if it's arrived in the U.S., they are assigned a VIN number, and then it just shows up on a truck. When they are assigned a VIN number, the dealer is invoiced for the bike, and it's my understanding that the bike is now en route to the dealer from CA via a system of warehouses in the U.S., which can take 2-3 weeks. Mine in TN was routed through a warehouse in NJ. I can vouch for my dealer that they had absolutely no clue when the bike would arrive. I watched them calling them to try to find out when the bike would arrive and hilariously, the bike showed up while they were trying to call them to figure out where it is.

Something must have happened with the H2 SX. The brand new Ninja 400 was shipped and delivered to the dealerships very quickly. I think at the end of the day, to Kawasaki, those of us who pre-ordered are just a small set of sales. Eventually, they'll get caught up and have these things stocked up everywhere. Well, unless they're trying to artificially create a demand by making them seem rare.

What I learned from it all: when buying a new Kawasaki, don't bother pre-ordering unless it's the only way to get one, like the H2 and H2R.

Good luck, hope you see your bike soon! It's worth the wait.
