Radar Detector
Is there anyone who is using radar detector?
There isn't any space above the dash to place it, and if I use some sort of mount to raise it enough to above the dash height, it'll block the TFT display. Any ideas or pics of your set up?

Re: Radar Detector
I've heard of some of the H2 guys using a Bluetooth capable one and mounting it in the "hole" opposite of the air intake. But that requires cutting the fairing.

Re: Radar Detector
Here's an old pic of the radar detector mounted on my Sprint. The mount is a TechMount Control Mount with a flat plate. I attach the radar detector with Velcro - it's been that way for 8 years without coming loose but is still easily removed when the bike is parked. One advantage with this location is the detector gives good coverage behind - maybe not a concern on the H2 SX! Disadvantage: it's not in direct line-of-sight.
I plan to use the same bracket on my SX - should be able to position it so the detector sits above the clutch MC.

BTW - in the pic you can see two white dots on the instrument surround. They're LEDs that I wired to the detector to flash a radar alert because I can't hear the detector with helmet and earplugs and, most times, don't pay attention to the display. Tried the LEDs for a while but eventually removed them. LEDs that were bright enough to grab my attention on a sunny day were too bright at night. For idea #2 I wired up a couple of piezo speakers inside my helmet. That worked. Another attention grabber is the radar screamer. I don't like the idea of shouting to the world each time my radar detector goes off so I haven't tried it.

It's amazing how fast you can go when you take your time.

Re: Radar Detector
And so I did. Just a rough fit up. I'll adjust it when I have more time but it works like this. No contact with the screen when you turn the bars - clearance is about ½" (1.3 cm) at the closest point. Having it sitting out there is not the prettiest location but I know that it does pick up radar signals well when mounted that way.Champ87 wrote: Wed Apr 18, 2018 12:14 pmI plan to use the same bracket on my SX - should be able to position it so the detector sits above the clutch MC.
9 years after the previous pic was taken my TechMount Control Mount has abandoned its old partner and run off with a new young model.

Re: Radar Detector
I'm gonna try a stem ram mount for a V1,I've been using this mount for phone with no problems, hopefully I won't lose V1 at speed

Re: Radar Detector
I have the same exact setup as Champ87. Unfortunately Techmount no longer makes that mount.
I plug a small Bluetooth transmitter into the headphone jack of my Beltronics Vector 995 radar detector and mount it with velcro on top. I put a small Bluetooth receiver in my inside jacket pocket with my earspeakers plugged into it.

Re: Radar Detector
I like the idea -- it could be very stealthy, but I don't like it enough to drill my fairing.cOoTeR wrote: Wed Apr 18, 2018 3:39 am I've heard of some of the H2 guys using a Bluetooth capable one and mounting it in the "hole" opposite of the air intake. But that requires cutting the fairing.
To me, stealthiness is key, because if the officer sees the detector, you're almost guaranteed the ticket if you're pulled over. This is why I prolly won't run a detector on my H2 unless I can make it stealthy (I have a V1 stealthily mounted in my car). I do a better job of sliding out of tickets.
If you're gonna speed, I think one of the best things you can do for yourself is read this book:
_A Speeder's Guide to Avoiding Tickets_ https://tinyurl.com/ybac25y2
It's written by a former NYS Trooper Sargeant.
His advice has helped me slide out of more than my share of tickets. It's not about talking your way out of tickets. It's about keeping the officer well disposed toward you and as calm as possible. (Traffic stops are very dangerous for LEO's.) There are no guarantees, but there's lots you can do to help yourself out.
That said, if I'd like to figure out a stealthy mount for my H2.
