Lightweight Battery
Lightweight Battery
Shorai LFX14A4-BS12 fits perfectly. Had to bend out the small tabs on the power cables, but otherwise a painless install. Drops a few pounds, plenty of cranking power.

Re: Lightweight Battery
I don't have a fancy scale, but this should be fairly close:
stock Yuasa YTZ10s - 7 lbs
Shorai LFX14A4-BS12 - 2.1 lbs
So about 5 lbs savings.

Nice 5 lbs up high is a good amount.kman0066 wrote: Fri Apr 13, 2018 3:03 pm I don't have a fancy scale, but this should be fairly close:

Re: Lightweight Battery
I've had 3 Shorai batteries. The weight saving is impressive. When I received the first one, the package felt so light I thought they'd sent the wrong thing until I opened the box. For my Triumph, the Shorai was smaller than the original AGM battery and cranked better - in warm weather.
In my experience starting suffers when temperatures drop below 40°F (5°C). Shorai's advice is to put the headlights on to flow some current before starting. "If starting at 40F/5C, 30 seconds will help wake the battery and increase cranking performance". What, I'm supposed to sit with my lights on for 30 seconds before starting the bike?
I'm too much of a cissy to go riding when it's below 40°F but a couple of times, when I was doing some winter maintenance, I had trouble starting the bike. Shorai say "If the engine fails to start on first crank.....the second attempt will be much stronger." I would add "sometimes" to the end of that sentence.

I've had 3 Shorai batteries so far. For me, cold start issues have not been enough to outweigh the advantages. For others thinking of going this route, do some research to make an informed decision before buying.

Re: Lightweight Battery
Hey Kman, I'm shopping for a Shorai. The Shorai site doesn't have any battery recommendation for the SX SE, but it looks like they're recommending the LFX19A4-BS12 to replace the Yuasa YTZ10S. Compared to the LFX14A4-BS12 you installed, the LFX19A4-BS12 has 75 more cold crank amps, is 0.5 lbs heavier and costs about $40 more.kman0066 wrote: Fri Apr 13, 2018 1:56 am Shorai LFX14A4-BS12 fits perfectly. What do you think, now that you've had your Shorai for some time? Is it possible to have a battery with too many cold crank amps? (the LFX19A4-BS12 is rated for nearly 100 more CCA's than the stock Yuasa.)
I admit to overthinking things, at the same time, I'm a believer in more power is always better. ;-)

Re: Lightweight Battery
Too much voltage will fry the system, but only the amount of amps needed will be pulled. You could have a million amp battery and it wouldn't kill your bike as long as it was 12-14 volts. So yes, it's safe. Mine is still going strong, 0 problems, but as long as it fits, you're good to go with that battery as well.

Re: Lightweight Battery
I bought my bike with 55 miles on it and it came with one of these batteries. I had no idea it wasn’t a oem battery.
