Post by vcyclenut » Wed Apr 04, 2018 2:18 pm

I thought it would be cool if at least initially we all posted our fuel mileage findings, ill be tracking mine each fill up

full power- 97 miles - 2.906 gal --36.82mpg --- initial break in
full power - 149 miles- 4.128 gal --36.09 mpg-- normal around town and pleasure riding on back roads
full power - 104 miles 3.444 gal --30.197 mpg testing and tuning

I didn't track the first tank since I want sure how close the dealership had it to full. I topped it off at 88 miles.
Then I did 160 miles all over the rev range and in all gears and throttle position. Basically speed up slow down never really holding a constant rpm. So not the best gauge of fuel economy but should show pretty close to the low end of the fuel economy. Lots of open road and some right mountain roads. I'd say maybe 1/4 of the riding was on tight twisty roads and 3/4 open roads.

Full power 160 miles -- 3.97 gallons -- 40.3 mpg

When I broke in my buddies bike I wasn't checking too closely but I did determine that when the fuel light came on I did about 25 miles at around 85mph and it took 4.5 gallons.

I also checked the speedo and Odo and found the speedo off but the odometer was spot on. Go figure.

When I put 3.97 gallons in the fuel light came on when I put the bike on the kick stand. So I'm pretty sure the light comes on at 4 gallons leaving another gallon to go.

On my 300 mile trip I averaged my miles to gallons used and I did around 38 on both fill up's.

My last ride I did 38.5 mpg with a lot of hard acceleration. About an 8hr day of riding mountain roads took it up to 170mph a few times starting from various speeds and gears. I did not have the bags on.

They build a "safety margin" into the speedo but not the odo. On my Triumph Sprint ST the speedo over-reads by 6% - that's the way Triumph programmed it. That is easily corrected using the tuning software but then the odo and trip computer will be off.

I prefer to live with the speedo error as the price for an accurate trip computer, fuel readings etc. I won't lose sleep just because my speedo says 85 when I'm only doing 80.
