Missing my TPMS

Post by KevinRLi » Mon Apr 02, 2018 12:17 pm

Coming off a Concours 14 I'm really missing my TPMS. That saved my ass on more than one occasion. Most recently while riding from NY to DC with zipping down I95 at 80MPH it went off warning me at 33lbs. I had time to get off the next exit and safely pull over to find a nail in my back tire. This bike has so much electronic wizardry and it doesn't have TPMS?

I don't think it's an issue with how fast the bike is. My C14 would top out around 170. I don't think a 30 MPH difference in top end would be the issue. I'm seriously looking at aftermarket TPMS options.

It could be a weight issue. When your talking about the speed a motorcycle wheel rotates a small weight because a lot of unsprung mass. Unsprung mass effects handling a lot hence why people spend $thousands$ on carbon fiber wheels.

Maybe it effected handling and cost enough that Kawasaki decided it wasn't worth putting on.

I totally get it Cooter. A wheel traveling 200MPH with 1 ounce here or there out of whack can be a nightmare. I'm going to be more on the Touring side of this baby.. Ha.. If I take it up to top end once or twice a year on a very deserted highway it will be a lot.

Owning my own tire changer I'm going to do a lot more research and if all looks ok I'm going to install a set. Take it out and test... If it's no good I'll take them out. I'm not going to get more than 5K out of the stock rubber. I'll be changing tires in a couple of months.

Its definetly nice to have I didn't realize the bike didn't have it until I picked it up and couldn't find it.

The thing I miss is the little storage box the concours had. I loved being able to take my sunglasses off and store them in there without stopping.

Yeah I know me too! But it does have actual space under the seat which my C14 had nothing.
