H2 SX brakes upgrade. Brembo + Brembo

Post by Fast5ru » Sun Jan 12, 2020 12:10 pm

I live in the country there speed limits for bikes are very polite not as strict as for cars and trucks. This is why good brakes are need. I am not saying base H2 SX has poor brakes, but Brembos are always better. Better feel, better initial bite, better consistency, better modulation feel at lever etc, etc. All my other bikes equipped with Brembo master cylinders and calipers as well, so, it is common swap for me to do.

So, I went for M4 and RCS 19 Corsa Corta. This is the result:
C43930D2-4D2A-44CD-A55F-ED2B8B001304.jpeg
At this particular bike and above mentioned upgrade I got no free play at brake lever and brake modulation with “force at lever rather then lever travel” . Love what I got.

Besides, I have a friend who got SX SE Plus model , purchased it in 19 ( mine is base SX 18) and he got same stock Nissin master cylinder as I did have and he got Stylema calipers + reinforced brake lines. So, we did compare performance/feelings before my Brembo swap and after.
Before : plus/minus same performance (stopping power) being not so much stupid going far too fast for tests. Both noticed longer brake lever travel on his SEPlus. Some like it, but not me.
After : Mine was better initial bite ( I guess pads going into factory ALWAYS worse then same pads purchased from pads manufacture because of price pressure from OEM) and almost zero free play at lever, which I was targeting. And, which is also important, my setup gives constant brake feel from high speed , say from 200+ km/h to almost full stop.
At the time of the test I recalled my zx14r performance sport ( Brembo + Brembo stock) which was equipped with so bad pads from stock, that one single hard braking from 240 to almost zero gives a smoke coming from pads and giant back pressure from brake lever that I almost never felt before. Changing pads into Ferodo Performance Series gives me totally different picture. So, I guess someone who is not satisfied with Brembos on their SE and upwards models - go and buy good pads from Brembo / Ferodo first.

P.S. The best ever stock brakes I noticed from my all time experience was R6, 2019. No free play, sharp but adequate initial bite, pretty pretty constant feel and back pressure. Nissin/Advics by the way.

Did you chance the rotor as well or just the m4 caliper?

No. Just calipers. By far thermal capacity of rotors and its m,aterial seems to be ok

Does that RCS19 have electrical switch connections or do you not use the cruise control brake disconnect now?

Yes it does, but you need some extra manipulations to make it work with the rest of the bike.

That was gonna be my next question lol. Brakes will probably be my next thing to mess around with.

I see , lol. My electrician spend some time cutting/ soldering Brembo switch and its wiring to make it fit with what Kawasaki wants from it. But, he did it perfectly fine. As far as brakes setup concerned and your bike abilities - go for thick Brembo 330 mm rotors+ Stylema and rcs17 CC. You will never made a mistake going this way. ✌🏻

Can the brembo calipers on the 2019 SE+ replace the calipers on the 2018 SE?

Nope , cause 19 got 100 mm calipers and 18 108 mm .
Doing the same mod in this days with brembo M4 (special model 32-20) 330 mm H2R rotors and ZCOO ex pads . Will let the oem master

Very interesting. M4 32-20 simply does not exist.
H2r rotors will not fit SX hub, since different mounting points.

What exactly you are getting to instal?
