So I got a new mini compressor for xmas. Today I plugged it in to the accessory socket and gleefully started setting my tyre pressures for about 5 seconds until the fuse blew. The fuse for the accessory socket is 7.5A ... my compressor draws 30A. I note a few of you have mentioned using mini compressors and even a travel kettle on the accessory socket .. how have you not blown fuses or did you just whack a bigger fuse in there?
What JustinP said, plus be sure that line running off your battery is fused properly. If it shorts it can burn your bike to the ground. Fuses are not just to protect the accessory.
Also, that must be one honkin' compressor to draw 30 amps. Most of the ones designed for bikes draw less than 10.

Interesting ... I think I'll change the connector on the compressor to the same as my battery tender and use that connector to get a connection straight to the battery. I can up the fuse in that to handle the compressor without too much danger. Thanks for the advice folks
The compressor is a decent one indeed ... I needed a quiet one so I opted for a better one than the cheap Chinese ones I've had in the past. Quiet and pumps the tyres in no time ...
