Ceramic Coating- good, bad or indifferent?

Post by PhukDD » Mon Oct 07, 2019 1:50 pm

The wife got her SUV done yesterday and they threw in the SX for an extra $100. Does anyone have long term reviews of these products? Image

I payed a lot of money to get my car done a few years back and it still is holding up great. If it was only $100 for y our bike I would question what quality of the product they used but maybe the market has changed a ton since I got my car done

Her Telluride was 500. They used: System X Crystal Ceramic Coating is a professional grade coating that lasts for up to 3 years - . And we have a warranty

can you not do it yourself , ceramic coatings readily available , correct me if I am wrong but it is only a ceramic polish you put onto your car, it is like the paint protection garages try and sell you when you buy a new car for stupid money , it is only a polish they apply ?????

This is the brand our detailer used. https://www.element119.com/ They will not sell to the public and he was telling me a few ounce bottle was like $150. My understanding is the biggest issue(labor intensive) is prep'ing the surface and then applying it correctly. This stuff sun bakes on, the first 2 days. (fortunately that is EZ in AZ) and yes there are retail versions out there.

Today you can actually ceramic coat your vehicle while you wash it. Wolfgang Über SiO2 Coating Wash https://www.autogeek.net/wolfgang-uber- ... +For+Size!
I use Optimum No Rinse Wash and Shine on all my vehicles, not ceramic but out lasts carnauba wax and you coat your vehicle every time you wash it. Optimum Opti-seal is another easy way to seal and shine with just a spritz and a wipe with micro fiber towel.

I paid about 1k to get my bike done this spring. What some of the money goes towards is they prep the paint before they put on the coating. Even though my bike had only 450km on it there were still slight blemishes and imperfections that they removed before applying the coating. Because once it was applied .....

As they used different ceramics for different surfaces. Example - metal, plastics, chrome, and another type for the more abrasive plastics on the mirrors. It is super easy to wash now. Like literally 10 minutes and no waxing needed.

That price also included some PPF work so without that, because it was obviously custom work, it would have been about 600.

Well worth it IMO. I will do it on all my bike from now on. I have a '97 Valkyrie that I plan to bring there as well this winter.

Our labor must be cheaper being so close to the border. Well that and the guy runs his business out of his house. He did mention that at a shop the work would have cost over double what we paid.

Mine has a Gyeon quartz coating done by a professional shop. Looks great and so much easier to clean now.
