Sprint air filter questions

Post by danham » Sun Sep 29, 2019 12:44 pm

@vcyclenut and others who have used Sprint filters:

I'm starting to gather the supplies for my winter "put away" (I hope not to actually have to do it for many weeks yet). I will definitely be looking at the OEM filter to see how much crud it has inhaled and it seems like this would be the moment to replace it if necessary.

I'm having trouble figuring out the difference between the P08 and P08 F1. Which is better for street use?

Also, I do not have an air compressor. What other cleaning methods work -- shop vac, soak, etc.?

Thanks,

-dan

EFFICIENCY & FILTRATION

The Sprint Filter polyester air filters retain 93.13% of 100 μ particles (Sprint Filter P08 air filter) - 91.8% of 37 μ particles (Sprint Filter P037 air filter) - 95.22% of 100 μ particles (Sprint Filter P08F1-85 air filter) versus the 76.42% of 4-layer oil-soaked cotton

I have tested the P08 and F1 back to back and they made the same power. According to their specs the f1 filters a little better and is waterproof

maybe buy a can of compressed air

their recommendation is blowing it out ,so that is what I would recommend

Maintenance:Maintenance of the air filter is important for the protection, care and efficiency of the engine. A clean and undamaged filter will always ensure the correct quantity of clean air for the airbox.

Another air filter maintenance aspect not to disregard is how long it lasts. Apart from the time required for disassembly and reassembly, cotton filters demand downtime for washing, drying and oiling the filtering element, all operations not necessary with a polyester filter. The Sprint Filter air filter cleaning procedure is, in fact, extremely easy and quick: just use an air jet in the opposite direction of the suction to remove most of the debris collected. No washing or drying is necessary, so it can be refitted straight away.

For exceptionally dirty filters begin with compressed air, then using a common household detergent, allow the filter to soak for 15-30 minutes and gently agitate the filter in the solution. Rinse the filter with clean water until the water runs clear. Allow to air dry thoroughly and then reinstall. Reminder, Do Not Oil.

Thanks David. Here's how Sprint responded to the cleaning question. Not sure if this means washing is going to work or whether I still need compressed air. I'm thinking washing plus blow out with exahust from shop vac might be my best bet.

Hello,

the air compressor is the easier and faster way. Our filters don't need to be washed an oiled, so you can renew it as you want. Also washing (without oiling) and waiting for it to dry on its own without any heat source.

Best regards and thanks for choosing Sprint Filter!

I take it as if you wash it just make sure you give it time to try before using it

I noticed this too. What does this mean, "waterproof"? What will exposure to water do to the P08? Has Sprint ever made this more clear?

Motorcycling is not, of itself, inherently dangerous. It is, however, extremely unforgiving of inattention, ignorance, incompetence, or stupidity

answer:

P08 and P08F1-85 air filters are totally different.
P08 has filtration power of 80 microns and the airflow of 5.050 lit/m2sec. The diameter of each wire of the fabris is 70 microns
P08F1-85 has filtration power of 85 microns (so quite the same as P08) but the airflow is over than 15.000 lit/m2sec. The diameter of each wire of the fabric is 22 microns. The P08F1-85 is also water repellent.
If you use P08 with wet conditions the air filter will not have any problem. Our air filters (all models) don't have no problems with water

and I didn't think that was a good answer so I asked for clarification and got this answer

The P08 F1-85 actually has a coating that keep the water from getting through the filter. You can pour water on the F1-85 and the water will stay on top of the filter, it won’t get through to the other side of the filter. The P08 does not have that coating, if you pour water on it, it will get through. But that doesn’t mean you can’t run the P08 in the rain, water doesn’t hurt the P08 at all.
