Fake vent!! No..

Post by KompreSXor » Thu Sep 26, 2019 5:30 pm

Now the weather has turned to shit, I’ve stripped my bike for a full clean. Only had one winter job on my mind, and it was the awful cheap looking fake air intake. I got hold of a second hand grill and intake, and after some (a lot!) of modification I’ve got two vents now a bit like the h2r :D

It looks functional, and actually allows air in, but vents it downwards away from the ECU and other electrics and vents out through the plastic tray under the headlight.. here a snap.. poor quality as it’s in the garage..😀

I did intend to make a functional intake that fed cold air to the top of the radiator, but the ECU encroaches on the aperture from the top, the headlight bracket from the side, and the brake lines to the ABS module are directly in the path of an intake. Obviously Kawasaki never intended to fit an intake there, so I conceded and made a better looking fake vent..😆...

So “fake vent!! Yes!”

no worries that it will get a bunch of air and pressure in behind the fairing as higher speeds??

Yeh, maybe. The real air intake has several holes, at least one facing down.. I think these are water drainage. Six facing the left fork leg, for the chirp noise to escape? So I figured there is already lots of air in and around the fairing. I suppose time will tell..

If it stops raining for more than 20 minutes when it’s back together, I’ll find out..

I like the idea. I have a 'in waiting' extra faux vent facing. I'm thinking of two or three ideas, all with relocation of the ECU, and other odd-n-ends in the area. A set of winter projects, after our seasonal rainy season starts, usually Oct/Nov to April, and after a VC exhaust/tune and keyless ignition setup.

That location is an excellent site for a whole bunch of fun 'add-ons'/bike mods.

Ive been looking at this too .... So, the 2 flat plastic pieces that usually sit in there do nothing? Those pesky plastic things are what has stopped me having a go at making that crap looking vent look more "real" Yours looks great, well done!

I was thinking of putting a screen there & have a small pipe or hose directing air to the top of the motor, or even to the SC. :wtf:

I've also been thinking of doing something similar. Am I right in thinking that the holes for the left/right intake in the fairing are not symmetrical?

They looked pretty symmetrical to me. When I swapped my cowling for a CF one, it came with a bullshit wire screen. I ended up epoxying it closed.
