Code clearing

Post by Raddy47 » Sun Sep 22, 2019 5:20 pm

In short, I have a error message on screen.

It’s my understanding that I need to go into dealer mode on screen and get the screen to display the error code.

My question, is it possible to clear code without purchasing an $80 dollar code scanner?

Unfortunately I’m at work right now and I can’t recall if the service manual has instructions on clearing the code without a scanner.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

From 17-12 of the service manual:

If the Kawasaki Diagnostic System is not available, do the following procedures.

1. Turn on the ignition switch and start the engine.
2. Keep the idling speed more than 30 seconds.
3. Run the vehicle more than 5 minutes at a speed of 40 km/h (25 mph) or more.Be sure to keep the engine running during procedures 2 and 3 for more than 10 minutes in total.
4. Turntheignitionswitchoff.
5. Repeat the above procedures 3 times.
6. Start the engine and check that the yellow engine warning indicator light (LED) goes off.

This is the page. Unfortunately, we cannot attach pdf's in this forum, so I had to zip it. :-(

I will post the page(s) I’m currently looking at when I get home later tonight.

What I’m getting is kecs waiting. Flashes a couple times then goes to a solid yellow just says kecs with a triangle exclamation mark. Going to check the connection didn’t jossle loose.

Currently bike will not change riding mode position sport, road etc.. or the weight from single passenger or loaded down.

I’m quite certain I just need code cleared in order to change. Have to throw exhaust back on if I’m going to run it as long what you posted says. Might have to wait till Friday. I get home late and don’t want to anger the neighbors

its normal not to be able to make changes to modes and such when you have a code displayed that will return to normal when it is cleared.

good luck and let us know what you find unplugged

Hahaha.. 5min after I order your scanner I see this post..

I could go about and waste time with the process without the scanner but I went ahead and purchased it from you for better piece of mind. I just need Friday to get here so I can begin the whole process.

For me, this was found on 17-14 but the whole process is right in that area.

Dealer mode/ find code given on screen/ look it up in service manual/ fix issue/ clear code.

Clear code with scanner or the manual way that you said was on 17-12. For me, 2019 se+ was on 17-14.

Now I am just hoping against hope. That since bike was in a crash, it’s just a hey check the suspension code. But I doubt I’ll get off that easy. In fact most of the KECS error codes seem like it’s going to be a real bad process. Easiest error code appears to be a low voltage code.

having the code reader will make it so much easier, I was going to suggest to buy it, but I don't want to come across as a salesman. I would not own a newer generation bike without one. To much of a ass pain to have to go to a dealer or go through some weird process

I just printed your shipping label , the scanner will go out today you received tracking from the website

thanks!!

Well, here are the codes I was getting

31, B83, E8D

The scanner I have only read one of the three and successfully cleared error code 31. Which is related to the tip over function.

The scanner said erasing failure but it did get rid of the one code it read.

Not quite sure what to do about it now since the scanner isn’t reading the other two codes.

Looking for directions to go in..

B83 – ABS Output fluid pressure sensor (front brake) trouble (voltage abnormal, wiring shorted or open)

are you sure about the E8D I don't see that listed in the manual
