Front Axle Tool

Post by dieseldad60 » Sun Sep 15, 2019 7:46 pm

Like a dummy I ordered the front axle sliders from vcyclenut and I don't have a front axle removal tool. I saw a post from cooter but was curious as to whether I should buy the real deal.

What do other folks do? Cooter said it was a 22mm ... is that correct? Thanks in advance to anyone input. Haven't really taken off the front axles of my other bikes.... but I am rather enjoying working on this one :D

In a pinch a reversed spark plug socket will work. Just push the rubber insert out.

It is indeed 22mm.

I've used threaded coupler nuts on other bikes. A 1/2 inch rod coupler nut should be 22mm (7/8th) if I'm not mistaken.

I might grab one of these just to make life easier. Instead of digging through my drawer for the right coupler nut :D.

I have a Motion Pro tool that fits several sizes of axles, but I recently picked up this hex bit socket that works better:

It makes it especially easy to mount it to a torque wrench.

All, thanks for the replies. After I posted this I went and ordered the tool since I will probably get plenty of use out of it. Nice to know about the spark plug and other alternatives. I ordered a Motion Pro as well. Appreciate the help!

I ordered one basically the same as that one but it doesn't work. The 17mm part is too deep to allow the 22mm to seat in the H2 axle. Just thought I should mention it.

I went and picked this up when realizing a standard axle tool will not work on the front axle.
