Cornering Lamps Retrofit to H2SX?
Was going down the rabbit hole looking for DRL's to mount to the front fender when a friend asked "why not buy the cornering lights from the SE and connect them so they are always on?"
Interesting way of making myself more visible on the road. Anyone smart enough to figure this out?
My only concern would be the draw on the electrical system, but then again, they are LED's

Re: Cornering Lamps Retrofit to H2SX?
No one has come up with an "always on" solution as of yet.. the cornering lights have their own built in ECU and can't simply be turned on by providing them with 12V
Not to mention, they would be blinding to other drivers, so I think it could be a good idea if they could only be switched on when the high beams are switched on.
And BTW, I'm pretty sure I've seen you somewhere on the internets before.. riderforums perhaps?

Re: Cornering Lamps Retrofit to H2SX?
I'm understanding the OP wanting just to install and make them work.
As JontheChron points out they are integrated into the system, and have their own 'system'
I'd think as long as the method for a direct relayed hot to the, or each light, it'd be a go, but you'd need to figure out how to go around/remove the built in ECU. In addition to that I think the more technical task would be cleanly mounting on a bike that didn't have them to begin with.

Re: Cornering Lamps Retrofit to H2SX?
I've ordered cornering lights for my 2018 non SE. I will be figuring out a way to make them work. I'd like to as intended, with cornering activation. If not I will go with a switch, trust me that's the easy way. And as of the comment fitting them on w a bike never ment to have them... well our non-se does have a spot to put them...
Any constructive input will be appreciated!
HELP!!! I WILL NEED SOME HELP FROM AN SE OWNER!!! Who happens to have access to an oscilloscope. Because the light have their own computer but are also linked to the canbus. I'm not sure what information the main system and sub system tell each other. I'm not sure if it's just for the on/off menu activation as well as the fault information. Possibly reads the IMU (I think that's the system) on the data highway for the motorcycle's lean angle. OR if the main computer commands it even more then that.
From my no knowledge of the protocalls but looking at the shop manual wiring and operation of menu, for a proper retrofit I'm thinking a TFT display may be required. (I'd like that anyway just $ being the problem for now). And if that's the case, 3d printing a connector no problem, I'd just have to check part numbers of nearly all the sensor to make sure they send the same signals. And I do believe in the shop manual diagnostics testing, it shows not the case on a couple sensors.

Feigning a surgeon's skills, can you excise the ECU's connections to the lights?
As LEO's would say, "Ma'am, just give me the lights."
or something like that, no oscilloscope, getting way too complicated.

Re: Cornering Lamps Retrofit to H2SX?
I have surgeon skills, professed by a plastic surgeon when they saw me do my own stitches single handed, with my non dominant hand. But in cars, electrical diagnostics, driveability, and weird messed up issues was and is my specialty. Exciseing the ecu communication to the light is simple. The fact the bike uses a canbus communication which us standard makes life easy it's just figuring the interpretations that may be a bit tricky.
To simplify it think of a canbus system as a theam park lazy river that goes in a circle. Each floating tube/raft has it's own color (canbus protocal) And each on/off section of the river (individual computer systems) looks for and sends out specific color raft, they often look for multiple rafts, and send out 1 or 2 types (as an example). When it sees that color raft it takes in that data and that data only. Or is listening to what that person in the raft is saying.
All you have to do is set up shop, add your own on/off. That is easy you just tap into the canbus high and low junctions.
Now the hard part. all systems need to be "woken up", finding out how is the hard part, were the scope and time analyzing signals is needed and super tkme consuming. Now does the system wake up with a 12v ref signal, i.e. the them park turns on the river, or does it need to see that red raft w a guy in it saying ok time to get ready, then wait for a blue raft to come buy with a guy yelling 10degrees of lean left. Were the lights computer said 10* left that's my Q to turn light 1 on... I have a feeling this is how the system works, threw experience. I just have to find out if it is and how to replicate the red raft. Replicating it is not the hard part, it's done a lot in the aftermarket auto industry w customer motor swaps when seamlessly integrated, not by the hacks that just want it to run.
But again if not, a simple old school on off switch will do just fine. Or wiring that to an ardueno, and just having it 100% stand alone can be done as well.

Re: Cornering Lamps Retrofit to H2SX?
Need help from an SX owner... pictures would be helpful. The connectors on the turning light unit does not mach the wiring diagram. The cross over wires I have are red, blue, orange, violet. And the ones that hook to the main wiring are white/green, white red, white/violet (maybe drown), & black. I'm sure the cross over ones are an identical match. But the ones to the main harness dont mach the service manual... which are red/black, red/blue, red/yellow, black yellow.
Last pic, thanks to a fellow H2SX member.
Any help will be much appreciated.
Once I can get the proper wiring information I will be able to test if the headlights will work in a more or less plug and play manner. If not I'll be making a stand alone controller.

Which wires do you need to identify?
I assume you have the full SX SE wiring diagram and the last pic is just an extract of the relevant part. If not then a full color version can be downloaded from this post.
I messed with wiring quite a bit when I installed a keyless ignition system on my SX SE. I don't recall any discrepancies in wiring colors but there was a lot of wiring I didn't need to look at.
- The crossover wires from left cornering light to right
- The connections from left cornering light to the main harness
- The colors of the SE main harness wires
- All of the above

Re: Cornering Lamps Retrofit to H2SX?
78cobra - keep in mind that the colors you see on the wiring diagram are the harness side. None of them will be present on an SX.
On the lamp side they're different colors - simply shown as black lines within the dashed box on the wiring diagram. For example, below is the connector for the right side cornering light on my SE. On the lamp side it looks like Pink, Gray(?), Brown and White - not labeled on the wiring diagram. On the harness side of the connector they would be BK/BL, G, Y, V.
Also, colors for the wiring connecting left lamp unit to right are for the harness wiring - diagram gives no indication of what those colors are on the lamp side of the connector.
