Low clutch reservoir

Post by PhukDD » Mon Aug 26, 2019 12:42 am

While climbing all over my bike this weekend I noticed the clutch reservoir was empty. Anyone have any ideas why this would be? I saw no leaks and had the plastic off. Internal leak?

It happened to me and dozens of owners.

I believe the clutch fluid boils off, I've caught it bubbling in the reservoir several times. I have also seen it bubbling in other videos posted our facebook page.

I have replaced my fluid by a higher boiling point fluid (Mutul RBF 600) and that solved the problem. I have been running for 16000 miles now on the new fluid and not a drop has boiled off.

Weird. Even if the OEM fluid was boiling, where would it go?

Mine too but the level is still okay. I also use the quick shifter almost exclusively.

I think the black was explained by the dye in the new hoses leaching into the fluid. After the first 1500 miles, change it and it does not turn black again.

I think it's the hose that runs from the clutch reservoir. My clutch fluid turned black shortly after I bought the bike, but I was just noticing today -- before major tragedy happened -- that the color had cleared up considerably over time as the fluid worked its way around.
