Thanks- it’s going in for the 600 mile service on Monday so hopefully they’ll locate the cause and fix it 👍

My 600 mile service became due whilst I was on holiday, after a 350 ride to where I was staying on vacation. On route to the Kawasaki dealer I noticed that the odd noise that had been bugging me was now absent. The long ride must have sorted out whatever was causing it! 😁

(Although knowing my luck it will return as soon as I get back home 😂)

If you put your bike on the center stand, and throttle it to 3500K RPM, will it show it's self?

If so, maybe pick up an engine sound stethoscope, and have a friend hold the RPM, while your 'listen' around your bike. Engine sound stethoscopes can be pretty cheap, and work very well.

Good advice. A "poor man's" stethoscope can be improvised using a screwdriver with a long shaft. Put the blade where you would put the stethoscope tip and put the handle against the bone just forward of your ear opening.

SOLVED - Odd noise at precisely 3500 revs

Post by JLW » Sat Sep 21, 2019 9:12 am

The noise was a screw on my sat nav bracket that finger tightens into the sat nav to secure it. When unscrewed it is suspended by a spring. It seems 3500 revs was the resonant frequency. Explains why the sound seemed to be coming from my helmet - it was only inches away from the sat nav bracket. It also explains why the noise went away when I rode the bike on vacation- it was screwed into the sat nav then. Happy now 😁
