Zero Gravity double bubble
Zero Gravity double bubble
Zero Gravity Double Bubble arrived last night.
About 3" shorter than stock.
With the stock shield the wind hits right at the bottom of my helmet, so it won't take a much higher shield to get that flow off my helmet.
I'm expecting their Zero Gravity touring shield to arrive today and I'll compare them and select how to get a shield setup to work.
On the ZX14 I used the bottom portion of a double bubble, cutting the upper section off, and then a full double bubble shield attached to that. The height worked well, though I wasn't crazy about the looks.

Hey UFO,
I like the looks.
How do find the wind flow and physical location on your body where the lower edge of the wind force contacts you, and the 'side' coverage? How'd you compare the difference between the new shield and the OEM shield?

I tried to take a ride today, and as soon as I left it started raining so I turned around and parked it.Prof J wrote: Fri Aug 16, 2019 10:23 pm How do find the wind flow and physical location on your body where the lower edge of the wind force contacts you, and the 'side' coverage? So, no real time to evaluate. But you mention that the double bubble is 3" shorter than stock (or am I misreading?). The double bubble is a little taller, because of the bubble portion of it.
I'm 6' 2" and actually like some clean air hitting me in the helmet. I also have broad shoulders, so I'm cursed anyway.

The Double Bubble I received is 'about' 3" shorter than my stock shield.UFO wrote: Sat Aug 17, 2019 5:51 am

I'm interested in your thoughts once you get better skies.

Re: Zero Gravity double bubble
I just overlayed the OEM shield onto the ZG DB. You can't overlay them exactly because of the bubble pushing up on the DB, but I tried to align the holes.
There's no way the DB is 3" shorter than OEM. At most it's 1/2" shorter, but that's deceiving because of the shape of the bubble. So I would say from a front on, cross section height POV they are basically the same height, but the bubble should help deflect a little more air upwards, and will definitely help in a tucked in situation.
On bikes like this, screens are primarily and aesthetic anyway. Get what you think looks good. The only way you will get large amounts of air deflection is mounting a huge assed screen. Even the ZG sport-touring screen probably won't deflect a significant amount of air away from the head area. In fact, it might create more turbulence/buffeting, which is worse than clean air hitting the helmet.

On my bike, photo above, you can see the difference, it is within 1/8-1/4" of being about 3" shorter than OEM. The bubble was held to the base of the OEM, and about 1/4" for the under the faring portion.

The bubble doesn't start at the base of the fairing, it starts about 3" above the V of the fairing. You need to align the holes in the shield with the bolt locations on the fairing to get a real estimate of fit.Prof J wrote: Sun Aug 18, 2019 2:21 amOn my bike, photo above, you can see the difference, it is within 1/8-1/4" of being about 3" shorter than OEM. Mount it in the actual plastic holder with the 6 rubber gromets, then install it. It's not 3" shorter than stock, I guarantee you...or they shipped you a different shield?

Re: Zero Gravity double bubble
I'll know in a few days. Held up to the OEM, and lowered 3/8's of an inch lower to allow for the under the fairing recess . . .
so I hope to get to it in a few days, after keyless ignition, garage door opener, seat re-adjustment, and Woolich system install.

Re: Zero Gravity double bubble
Here are several new windscreens.
This one is a double bubble. As you can see, on the bottom it is an inch above the stock, and at the top about 2 inches shorter. Feeling through the plastic it did not feel like a double bubble, though the outside product said it was . . .
Different screen than the one UFO received. I'm sending this one back.
This photo is the new 'touring' windscreen, up against the OEM. The touring windscreen is about 1' taller than OEM. The bottoms are even.
I'll probably end up splicing the touring onto a trimmed OEM.
