Weight Saving SE Model

Post by KompreSXor » Mon Aug 12, 2019 2:10 pm

Ive set about removing some of the weight from my H2, I'm pleased with the list so far, Is anyone else bothered? or are you leaving your bikes stock?
Big losses are the battery, exhaust and centre stand, but all the titanium fasteners look great, don't rust and shave a few more grams off! It does feel lighter when manoeuvring at low speeds, at least in my head it does!

Nice Work Kompre,

It won’t matter because I’m not taking it into competition. It is fast, quiet and pleasing to ride the express. The center stand was a selling point for me after several bikes without it. It’s down low, centered and doesn’t limit cornering clearance so it’s fine by me. If it was still important to me to have track ready I would have kept the S1000rr which already omitted the centerstand, had titanium fasteners and weighed 432 lbs wet. It’s not important to me to have the fastest SX SE, I’m still a fast rider, I do like some occasional speed runs and would like to see GPS verified 190 but it has so far not been attainable in the high elevations (4,600-5,000 ft) and warmer summer temps, just 181.1 mph (flashed by VCyclenut) but I think it might get there with the lower profile windscreen I put on from the base SX and cooler temps ahead, or if I run at lower elevations.

This is the 1st bike I've owned that has a center stand and it's a freaking God send! So versatile for maintenence and and tricky parking situations, love it. (to each their own)

I never thought I would spend the $$ for panniers but finally broke down and did AFTER a 3500 mile round trip, now I can't imagine not having them available to me when needed.

The biggest weight savings I can give my bike is for me to lose weight and there is plenty to lose in this regard but I respect your efforts, performance by any means.

Super easy to drop 20lbs with a full exhaust system. Plus if you can lose 20lbs off your body then that is 40lbs total. 40lbs off a bike is huge and can help with fuel savings.

Yes, and no. They fit perfectly but I had to make a custom aluminium heat shield for my right pannier. The gasses are just a bit to close and I didn’t want to risk melting it. It’s similar to the shield the z1000sx uses, but mines thicker and only on the right pannier. Works fine, I’ve done hundreds of miles with them on, it just leaves some soot on the heat shield after a while..🤣
