I would push to get the difference of the cost of a used bike. Shouldn't pay new bike prices for a used bike.

I’m with cooter on this one... I want to say the difference between a new/used bike especially a demo bike would be more than a helmet and first service! I bought mine used with 55 miles on it and paid 18k. At the time new ones were about 20k out the door and some were closer to 22k.

I think I am with you about proceeding on this issue.

I woke up with a photo in my head of the bike, on a motorcycle sales web page, the one I read when I called them about the bike, and then drove to say I'd purchase it.

I printed the listing, with info when I first called them, back in May, which has the date on it, and my contemporaneous notes of the phone calls, sales person, who also later was the face to face sales person - and whom represented the bike as having 1 mile. In the listing I printed it shows the VIN, which is my bikes, and "1" mile.

While I'm on board with the initial rage of it. I think it's getting greedy trying to push for the helmet etc. Take the 600 mile, or just return the bike flat out and buy elsewhere. Arguably since you inspected/had chance to inspect the bike, you also failed to cycle thru the menu's and notice that it was just left on trip b or whatever vs the actual odometer reading which is going to be the true accurate thing.

They sold you a demo bike as new .., you have every right to be pissed ... mine came with 6km on it and I even questioned that. The demo bike was also for sale at a 2k discount and was clearly marked as a demo bike.

I've seen plenty of vehicles that were driven the shit out of before they were sold. None of us wants to buy a vehicle like that, but the reality is that break in is highly over rated. While that may be my opinion, I've been around a long time and have owned an awful lot of vehicles.

If someone did any damage to a vehicle in the first 35 miles that damage will show up well before the warranty runs out. Something that wears out or breaks 10,000 miles down the road is not likely due to something that happened 9,965 miles ago.

Just my opinion. Don't ruin a dealer relationship over that.

My issue is more of a value standpoint and him being mislead by the dealership. If a person buys a brand new bike and totals it pulling off of the lot the insurance company is going to give them the used bike value. Vehicles depreciate a lot the second it becomes used.

The dealership told him it's a new bike and stated the mileage as being one mile. Thats a blatant lie there is no way a dealership is letting people test ride a $20,000 bike and salesmen don't know it. I wouldn't be worried about a relationship with a dealership that is intentionally ripping me off. If Kawasaki hasn't been contacted abbot the issue they should be.

So we stopped by the bike dealership Friday on our way up to Portland. I had phoned in Thursday to let the sales manager know, as he had offered to wait for me to make a decision about how I wanted to proceed, so I advised that I'd stop by on Friday, early afternoon for us to meet.

I took up the internet sales listing, which shows 1 mile and the VIN of the bike, and also took copies of three bikes on the internet site, which were being sold as 'used/pre-owned', as the sales manager, or dealership manager, can't recall which one at this point, said a bike must have "hundreds of miles" on it for them to sell them as 'used', so my bike was effectively sold to me as 'new'. The three bikes examples I had ready were all being sold as used, with 1 mile, 3 miles, and 67 miles.

At any rate, when I got there the sales manager was nearby and recognized me, and asked me to come to his office. After a second of landing in the chair, he called the dealership manager, who showed up a minute later. We ended up in his office and he was very direct, asking me "What do you have in mind to resolve this?"

I shared that I'd like them to pick the bike back up, and to exchange for another 2018 SX with accurate, low mileage, or to 'trade' it in for a 2019 model. At that point the sales manager left to check on what was available, and came back and said there were no more '18s, the bike I had was the last one, which they had on the floor for a year.

He then left and the dealership manager said I could have the '19 with no muss, no fuss. He offered very a low price straight out, and the bike will be delivered Monday, and they will take the '18 back home.

Awesome. I'm glad that is over.

I respect the manner that there was no dickering or needing to crow-bar my position.

Now it's just time for fun.

On the flip side, mine was registered as a demo bike so 4k off and it had 0kms on it. I put the first km on the bike when i begged them to let me test it to see if my bike could handle it.
