Re: Real world gas mileage
Yeah, I can get 40 mpusg if I take it easy. I’ve never seen 50 mpg though – unless I convert to UK gallons. I keep a good track of fuel consumption and this thread prompted me to juggle some numbers.
Kawasaki specification says the tank holds 19 litres (5 US gallons). The most I’ve ever refilled is 4.6 US gallons. With less than ½ gallon left, that’s pushing the useable limit for me.
The best fuel consumption I’ve ever squeezed out of my H2 SX SE is 47.1 mpusg (56.5 mpig, 5.0 L/100km) average between refills. That was steady highway riding on a road trip to Texas.
Those numbers weren’t achieved at the same time but, if I combine them, I get a theoretical range of 217 miles with a little left in the tank. Not brilliant for a sports tourer, but not horrible when you consider the performance available. In reality, I’ve never achieved 200 miles between refills. Yeah, the numbers say I can do it, but I’d be holding up old ladies in Buicks then frantically looking for a gas station for the last few miles.
Back in the real world, I’m generally doing about 140 – 150 miles between refills with 90% of my riding being brisk but steady while the other 10% is whipping it just for the fun of it. And fun it is

Re: Real world gas mileage
Well a few times now riding around 100km/hr in full power with TC off i have gotten well over 270kms on a tank. I have drained it down to a 1/3rd of a tank left in 45kms doing a high speed run, so i'd say this thing is pretty good all around

Re: Real world gas mileage
I commute 50 miles a day round trip on the highway. When I'm following riding reasonably (75-80 mph) with cruise control I get about 43 MPG. My 2008 zx14 got around 35-38 MPG for the same route.
