Real world gas mileage

Post by wellcraft » Fri May 17, 2019 3:08 pm

When I spoke with the Kawasaki rep at the NYC motorcycle show last December one of his selling points regarding the H2SXSE was getting up to 50 mpg. I've got about 700 miles on my 2018 H2SXSE and I'm not getting anywhere near 50 mph so my question to guys who have a few thousand miles on their bikes is what kind of gas mileage are you getting on average. I've been babying my H2SXSE and following the recommended break-in procedure so I haven't been riding aggressively at all.

I'm at 775 miles and averaging 42-46 depending on all the usual variables.

I have a theory (untested yet) that once I start using more of the tach, mileage may actually improve a little under some circumstances because the higher boost pressure at higher RPMs should increase efficiency. Obviously hard acceleration and wind resistance will have something to say about this too.

I've been tracking fuel mileage on the Fuelio app since I bought mine last year. I'm averaging 39.4 mpg (5.97 L/100km) over that time (as measured by actual ODO and gallons put in at each fillup, not readings off the bike).

Avg mileage has dipped a bit since flash/slipon/Sprint filter late last year...it's just hard not to wick it up more than usual.

The only time you're going to get 50 mpg is probably cruising 55 mph for an entire tank, short shifting, etc.

I can confirm that riding 30MPH in 6th gear using the whole tank you can get 72MPG :D

Geez, that sounds like a boring ride! Good on you for testing it out though.

I've been getting around 45 to 48 mpg (that's real imperial gallons, not those pretend ones you chaps in the US use! :D ) on my 150 mile round trip daily commute, which consists of a mix of open country roads, motorways and city (to the centre of London). If I were to stick to speed limits and be a little less enthusiastic on over takes etc. I think I'd get more than 50mpg.

Just returned from a 3 day 1500 mile trip. I ran in low power mode on cruise control on the highways at 80 to 85 using gps for speed indicator. Then running the destination roads in full power mode. We had a strong head wind on the way home. I never reset the av fuel mpg until returning home. I only got 30 mpg over the entire 1500 miles.

I did get 50 mpg when breaking in the bike. I didn't go over 4000 RPM for the first 400 miles and barely hit 4500 RPM up to 600 miles.

After the break-in Service, I have been riding in a spirited manner and haven't behaved at all! So as expected, I'm getting around 38-41 MPG and I don't even care. This bike is too much fun. Can't wait to get a flash and install the Sprint Filter. I have the filter, but haven't gotten around to taking it apart to install it.

BTW, when I was breaking it in, I always got the 3 circle icon for economic gas mileage. Not much since...
