Oil in the intake! HELP!
Hoping you guys can help with this one:
After riding today, I notice a little oil streaking down the left side fairing, so I start doing some digging to find the source. After removing the left fairing, I find the oil seems to be coming from around the intake tube and the supercharger/airfilter area. After opening up the supercharger/airfilter chamber, I find standing oil in the chamber. (see attached photo) The bike currently has a little over 1200 miles on it and had the first service at around 700 miles. I am not sure if the shop over oiled the air filter, or something else. It seems like A LOT of oil though. Any thoughts would be appreciated!
I have fully removed all the oil, cleaned the airfilter and taken a test ride. So far, no new oil leaks, but it was only a 10 minute ride...
Thanks for any help or suggestions!
Aaron

Re: Oil in the intake! HELP!
Most likely over filled engine oil blowing through the crank case vent. Is that the stock air filter?

No. That is the Sprint P08 filter.cOoTeR wrote: Mon May 06, 2019 3:20 am Most likely over filled engine oil blowing through the crank case vent. Is that the stick air filter?

Re: Oil in the intake! HELP!
You should not oil the Sprint P08... it must remain dry. It's normal to have some oil in the air box(that's the reason there is a catch can at the bottom of the box) but the puddeling seems excessive.. maybe she shop accidentally oiled the filter?

Have you checked that the bottom oil tank is empty?
It is located on the left side down next to the kickstand

The little bottle at the end of a hose on the left side was about half full of oil.Oyabun wrote: Mon May 06, 2019 7:37 am Have you checked that the bottom oil tank is empty?

Re: Oil in the intake! HELP!
i was under the impression the clear plastic container at the bottom of the air intake box was to collect any debris sucked into the filter box and drop down into it bug's ect. would not have thought there should be any oil any were near the air box I maybe wrong ???? I would be straight to a Kawasaki dealer to have it checked , keep us informed thanks

Re: Oil in the intake! HELP!
There are 2 drains in the filter housing, the small tube that your talking about and a long tube that runs to a small catch bottle under the left fairing. The crank case vents into the air filter housing. If the oil level is over filled it will get blown out of the crack case and into the airfilter housing.keith zx wrote: Mon May 06, 2019 4:03 pm i was under the impression the clear plastic container at the bottom of the air intake box was to collect any debris sucked into the filter box and drop down into it bug's ect. would not have thought there should be any oil any were near the air box I maybe wrong ???? Re: Oil in the intake! HELP!
You guys were right. The dealer way over-filled the oil. Prior to draining the oil, the window was COMPLETELY filled and took a good lean to get the oil level to show.
I drained this much oil to get the oil in the window to midway.
After draining the excess oil: I guess I should have double checked that level when I brought it home from the dealer.
Thanks for all your help!
