Fender Extender

after a little help, don't know if this has been asked before ?? just received my fender extender, went to fit it but found the front mudguard does not come off as easy as I thought like most bikes do, would be awkward to fit the extender with the mudguard on the bike , is there a trick to removing the front mudguard or do I have to remove the front wheel , don't really want to start removing the wheel just to fit the extender , cheers
