Big Shout out to Dave @ Flashed by Vcyclenut

:D
I am pleased beyond words, not only with the excellent tune for my stock 2018 H2 SX SE but the fast turnaround meant that I’ve been enjoying my new H2 over the Memorial holidays. He only received the ecu on Thursday, and before noon Friday it was reinstalled on my bike. Denver is not close to Fort Myers! Thank you David!!!

A few words about the flash, getting the ecu out without removing the fairing was tight, but care and patience it did come out smoothly. Going back in was actually easier, still tight but straightforward.

The included instructions called for resetting the ecu by making (3) 10 second starts at idle. On the fourth restart, good to go. The instructions stated there could be a CEL code come on which would have to be reset, with instructions given, however this was not the case, no codes were thrown.

I was hoping not only for the power gains at stock, but driveability improvements. It was immediately apparent the idle was smoother, the burbling on decelerations was gone and the transitions from trailing to part throttle were silky smooth. It just feels happy about the changes, really should come from the factory this way. It’s super smooth in L (touring mode), still calm and composed in M, uncorked but still linear and controllable in F. It’s pavement ripping in any of the modes, all the way to the 13,000 rpm peak, just a jet that only fails to take flight but you’re really not even sure it won’t.

I had a good feeling about Dave, as a racer and tuner, he was making good judgments to balance performance, safety and reliability. Everything still integrates beautifully, KEBC, KTRC, KIBS, the quickshifter, the fan, perfect integration, and crazy speed and power everywhere.

This should be the first mod on any H2 SX. Well done Dave!

Thank you so much for the great review!!

Makes me very happy when a customer appreciates my work, I take a lot of pride in my work and spend a lot of extra time to make sure the bike responds the way it should in all conditions.

Uhhhhhh, much.

What other bike upgrade gets you 40hp and 6.5 ft/lbs for $250? More with a slip on and Sprint filter.

See the dynos:

It hasn't been on a dyno, and it would be mostly pointless anyway since I don't have the stock baseline, and would not be able to do the test on same day under same conditions. I won't claim gains that I can't prove, but I can leave impressions. Coming from a BMW S1000rr that I rode on the track almost exclusively, and comparing to my H2 SX SE which is going to exclusively be a sport touring mount, I can still characterize it this way: At High Plains Raceway, I wasn't the fastest rider and didn't have the fastest bike yet I was never passed on a straightaway on the BMW. The bike ripped. Comparatively, the stock H2 felt at once boosted, always mid range strong yet gave the feeling it was being short shifted. Since Dave's flash, it's gained its legs at the top, where out of breath before and falling flat after 12k rpm is now pulling the hardest 12k-13k, all the way at the top. It feels like an extra gear, and compared to the S1000rr, well now I'm not so sure. It's all seat of the pants feel anyway, the BMW was massively wicked up to 14k but the flashed by Vcyclenut I think just might own the measure of it. It's certainly satisfying and without a doubt a turbine boost into the jet stream that you have to be ready for; it comes very quickly. I stay over the tank and pull up on the quickshifter when the rev light is blinking so I can keep my eyes up and focused ahead.

But what it really comes down to in this case, is reputation. Dave had it in good measure. I've been reading it right here, good success, progress made not only with power but with driveability and seemingly without harm, progress in steps, documented, shared. Your warranty can be toast after doing something like this, so you've got to believe in yourself and your chances, to protect and not abuse, and that the flash will do the same, do the job you hope as well that you don't be a hamfisted wrecking ball to the equipment. Dave has emphasized that as among his goals. He said he chose not to sacrifice reliability trying to pull a big number. For the people who care only about pulling big numbers, his message of cautious improvements may not be the message for them but it was for me. Similarly, I care about my hearing, don't like loud exhausts, don't like calling unwanted attention to myself either, I wear hearing protection as well, I like powerful but quiet. Same with air filter, Sprint filter may be awesome, better than stock, but to be sure out here in the arid dry west, where riding through blowing sand storms is not unusual, I don't want a chance of tiny debris impinging on my supercharger turbine at 110,000 rpm, and I'm sure Kawasaki doesn't either, so it's no great sacrifice in view of my local conditions to exercise caution.

But what Dave did, was do exactly what he said he would do, explained the reasoning behind his choices, and appealing to me as a customer. He gave great service, I like him for it, I'm not giving him props, he earned them. I recommend with 5 stars.

Good job! Sounds awesome. Any chance of flashing the ECU of my German bike? Or any recommendation? Thanks in advance!

Dave, I see you are in Ft. Meyers Florida, where the humidity is nominally in the low 70's, would be my guess.

I'm in Oregon, and the humidity here is typically from the low teens to 30's in the summer.

I'm aware that AFR has a relationship with humidity, so it'd be my guess that if your maps are tuned to Florida, that the AFR would be a little more rich running here, so it'd still be safe (safer) actually, but off just a bit on power.

I know a guy who bought a turbo'd bike, from the dry desert in Calif - 90's days @ 10-15%, and ran it, without retuning for sea level on the east coast where the new owner lived. By 10 miles he had blown the rings.

This would be an opposite kinda things, as I'd guess it would running rich.

Any idea if it would be a significant difference?

Thank you.

I have been testing my bike in all kinds of temps and humidity (I have data logging equipment on my bike all the time).

I have seen measurable changes in hp with higher temps and humidity I have not seen significant changes in air /fuel. I am also not doing mail tunes on the safe limit I leave some room. Imo and in the opinion of most a few hp on a bike this powerful is not worth risking engine damage.

I currently have around 50 people running my flashes in their h2sx’a and have had zero issues with reliability.

I realize this is anecdotal but there haven't been any factory turbo bikes since the 1984 GPZ-750 turbo, which means your friend's bike was probably kitted. And there are so many possible high risk variables from exhaust driven turbos including the waste gate, EGT, intake filter (if any), compression ratios, head gasket designs, pistons and rings as to remove humidity and ambient temperature from the equation as the least of it. I mean, you understand this bike was operating on the very thin edge of danger as most retrofitted turbo kits are.

I'm in Frederick, I'd love to get together and try them side by side. I've been slow to get it done after being disapointed by a tune on my Tundra that everyone raved about.
