Has anyone found a steering damper for the H2 SX SE?

Post by cOoTeR » Wed Jul 11, 2018 10:52 pm

There is a 1/2 mile race near me coming up in November. But one of the requirements is that a steering damper has to be on the bike if its going 150mph. I haven't been able to find anything that will work other than cheap stuff that claims to be universal. Has anyone found one that fits our bikes?

i think your going to have to go universal, I cant imagine there is going to be enough demand for someone to come up with a custom kit

I still think a GPR style damper would be perfect for this bike. But haven't got around to measuring things to see what would work. Probably will need some custom machining done on the mount in any case because of our uniquely designed top triple clamp.

You could probably get away with one of those side mount dampers like they use on the Ducatis:

Shouldn't Kawasaki already build it in-built? This might be a shortcoming of a bike so powerful. :(

the kicker is in the USA it was listed as coming with one, but it doesn't

honestly I haven't experienced a need for one yet even with a big power increase over stock

but I understand the organization wanting you to have one, cheap insurance really...if you can figure out how to mount one

Reviving this as i had a tank slapper today. The city is ripping up 2 of the 3 lanes on a road i use every day. As i left a set a lights and accelerated i changed lanes from the ripped up one to the non ripped up one, my front tire grabbed the 2” lip of the road. Put me into a little tank slapper so i got on the throttle and it worked itself out. I know this is suppose to be a sport tourer bike but it should definitly have a damper on it.

If anyone tries a universal one, please share with the class. I live in Salt Lake City and want to try the Bonneville Salt flats next summer. See if I can't join the 200 mph club. No way I will try it without a damper though.

I've got the ECU re-flashed (wow!) Have the vandemon exhaust coming. Carbon fiber rims on order. I figure with a little bit of gear change I might be able to hit 200.

Seems strange as many ZX14,s run top speed with no dampers.

I've started working on a custom mount for the steering damper. I bought a used one off of a zx10r I think it was an 08. It looks like we will be able to mount it in a position where the bike still gets lock to lock movement. My friend custom milled the first mock up mounting block. We need to go slightly higher to keep the damper from hitting the steering stem nut. It's coming along though.
