If that kit is what I think it is - the lower support pieces - you risk significant damage to the panniers by riding without it. Those plastic tabs on the panniers that engage the grab rails are not designed to “hinge” or support that weight.

Wellcraft, I agree and would add one. On my previous BMW I could securely close the panniers but leave them unlocked while I ride. Much more convenient than Kawi.

I agree I did find having to ride with the Kawasaki panniers locked was a pain, I don't see why Kawasaki didn't design them so you could ride with them locked or unlocked.

Are y'all often opening your panniers while riding or something? I've never had an issue with unlocking the bags and opening them when I stop. It literally takes 2 seconds, and I'd rather have the piece of mind.

It's just inconvenient to have to unlock the panniers whenever you want to gain access to them, maybe I'm spoiled because BMW has given me the option to ride with the panniers unlocked if I choose.

What wellcraft said. Kawi seems to want to keep the key captive, whether in the ignition, fuel cap, or pannier. At least they let you re-install the seat without having the key in that lock.

Has anybody rode with the Panners on and without the Kawasaki 99994-1090 kit installed?
I still need to order that, but in the mean time, That kit does offer some much needed stability to the Panners.
I have a 21 H2 SX SE for reference.

I didn’t install the stupid shims or wtfevr. The big rubber nubs installed to the bitch peg mounts yes. Those probably matter.

If the bags rattle without the shins I don’t notice, or frankly care. But, I’m not “all about the bags”....

BMW pannier are more sturdy than Kawasaki's. Glad they make you lock everytime.
