Worst rainstorm on a bike ever

Post by IowaH2SXRider » Sat Oct 05, 2019 4:54 pm

Back in June, we hit a major storm that popped up in the middle of no-where Florida

Check it out...winds gusting from 30-40 mph

I got caught in a bad downpour coming down MT Evan's in Colorado, no fun at all especially when you add lightning to the mix. While heavy rain makes the ride uncomfortable lightning can kill you.

A few years ago in VA two of us got caught in rain so intense that the wake from 18-wheelers was washing over the top of our helmets. Pro-tip: close your chin vent BEFORE the inside of your Pin-Lock anti-fog insert gets wet or give up being able to see for the rest of the day. Ugh.

One of the worst of many was a trip to the MotoGP at Indianapolis. I was on my 99 Busa the wife was on her 02 R6. The rain started just south of Sioux City, IA. Once we got on I80 the wind was steady at 30mph with gusts of 45. Solid drizzling rain! Then having to deal with spray from semis side by side for miles on end. Stopped in the Quad cities for a while to dry out but needed to get to Morton before night fall but rode in the dark for a while. Basically rode 8+ hours in crazy weather! The next day we waited for a gap in storms and headed out. We literally split a gap just ahead of several tornados that were coming up from SW. After that adventure I can tell you that I went out an invested in better rain gear!
