Destination Texas

Post by Champ87 » Fri Oct 01, 2021 12:22 pm

Headed for Austin, TX for MotoGP at Circuit of the Americas. I didn't take the most direct route - that would be boring. I added a few miles to route through the Ozarks.

Wednesday was mainly interstate but some better riding roads around my old neighborhood in Missouri. Did 510 miles at a steady pace. The SE ate the miles.

Yesterday was more fun. Less miles but good riding roads and enjoyable scenery.

Arrived in Austin today (Friday). Most of yesterday and today, the skies have looked like there's rain just around the corner. Then you ride the next corner and...

The Michelin Road 5s performed well. I was riding with plenty of safety margin so they didn't get much of a test. All the same, they felt good and stable with no slippery moments.

If you get a chance try to make it to AF1 racing’s MotoGP party in Austin.
Great company to visit. Colin Edward’s was the guest in 2016 for a meet and greet.

My buddy got his Tuono tuned there. It was...rich. I cant ride behind him, ever.

He said everything else about it was awesome though. I'd love to go sometime.

I got home from my trip Thursday. The return journey was similar to the trip there - a mixture of interstate and some good riding roads. I encountered a few rain showers again so that required a bit more caution wherever the road was wet or damp. Obviously, I prefer the dry but, on unfamiliar, twisty roads, I ride with a good safety margin so the wet wasn't such a spoiler as it might be. Unfortunately, riding in the rain does make a mess of the bike. It looked like crap when I rolled it into my workshop - dull, dirty and little piles of grit in various corners. Going to need a good wash and check over to restore it to something to be proud of.

Total mileage was 2,947 mile - about half what I covered each time I rode to California for MotoGP or WSBK at Laguna Seca. The SE performed flawlessly. I've been gradually dialing in my suspension settings and feel like I've got a good setup now. Compliant is the word that comes to mind - it provided a good balance for interstate or twisty back roads, dry or wet.

With the exception of a lower SX screen, my ergos are stock. My biggest concern was the seat, but it didn't cause any undue issues on those 500 mile days. That's not to say it can't be improved, but it wasn't causing me the problems some have experienced.

I've got plenty of GoPro video capture. It will take some time to edit, but I'll post a link when I eventually edit it down to a reasonable length.

SOOO cool Champs.Glad it was a safe ride and she's running awesomely.I've been videoing my latest rides while the weather is still holding. They're boring actually, with a few higher speed cornering in there. The scenery though is really nice.

Mine's running so good.Getting close to 7K now.Not one problem(except my messing up the heated grip) .All resolved now.My trades were definitely worth it,though I do sometimes miss my H2.She was one of a kind for sure.

Waiting not so patiently for your uploaded rides now.Glad you're sharing em.Glad ya made it back safe and sound man. :cheer:

And the reason I rode to Austin - apart from the fun of just riding there. Some photos from Circuit of the Americas:
