Go kart track

Post by Snakes709 » Wed Sep 09, 2020 2:12 am

Did the last track day of the year. This track was originally for go karts so very tight. Alot of work to get this bike around the turns. Kept fucking my shifts up on my back straight as i switched from the knight design pegs back to oem and didnt like where my shifter was sitting. My one friend working at gate (just after the tower) asked about a noise my bike making, saying it sounded like a bird lol. Another friend was working turn 2 (turn after the long straight) and he was blown away how loud the bov was. This bike caught ALOT of attention. I let one of the instructors take it out during a novice session while he kept an eye on the kids. He quickly learned why i said full power mode (with vcyclenuts flash) isnt a good idea. Throttle is way to sensitive and abrupt.

It was tiring. 15min sessions on this tight track are hard. Jumped on a instructors race bike and it was so fucking easy flicking the bike back and forth lol

Ya that was my biggest concern coming from zx10s. It take a bit more work but they listen well. Stopping can get concerning at times, but am used to that too.

been debating deleting the ABS and running dedicated lines to a brembo 19RCS master cylinder. It's what i did to my zx10r and it felt amazing.

I've never done a track day but it looks like you kept the bike in 1st gear the majority of the time, noticed you switched to second once. Is this normal for riding on a track or just this particular track. I didn't watch the entire video. Thanks

Its this particular track. So with this bike being supercharged the power doesnt drop off like normal bikes. So my rev limit is 13,000rpm making peak power at that rpm (peak power would be beyond that). This track is small and tight so 1st gear on majority of the track is all that is required. If i went to 2nd gear my rpm would be low and wouldnt be anywhere near the powerband. The straight is the only place where i can get up to 3rd gear (when i didnt miss shift as my shifter was set for my knight design lowering pegs and i was using my oem pegs)

I been to a track (Area 27) that is a very fast paced track and i spent majority of the time in 2nd and got to the top of 4th gear on the straight. Could have went to 5th but my forks were to soft and needed more room to slow down.

The SX is a big a heavy bike with a unique powerband so it needs a large track to truly open her up.

Speaking of track...I had one of the track techs for a track school set up my suspension this weekend. It turns out the bike really doesn’t like to run wide, and a child in my garage likes to play with Suspension settings.
